it was amazing

Being a drama teacher, I am very familiar with this play, but I visited The Folger in DC this year and saw a play called A Room at the Castle that told the play from the viewpoints of the three women in the play.., the Queen, Ophelia, and her nurse. It was eye opening about the patriarchy and how women were used and abused by it. I also bought an updated, annotated copy of the play which I would highly recommend if you read it for the first time. It is published by Simon and Schuster and edited by Barbara Mowat. With Hamnet and Hamlet coming to theatres soon, this might be good to prepare. The new Hamlet is a modern re-take in London’s financial district and underground with an amazing cast and director. Or maybe you want to understand why people are complaining about Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia if she is being saved by a man. It is the men who drove her to her death. Many see the themes being repeated in America today…. Prosecution for political opponents, politics of revenge, usurping the will of the people. No wonder it has so many projects revolving around this greatest achievement by William Shakespeare.
