** spoiler alert **
I just closed the book after finishing the final chapter. I'm profoundly confused and unsettled. I think I may have to go all the way back to the beginning, and read the margins again, going in chronological order (according to the colors) to piece together Jenn and Eric's story.
I thought I'd figured out who Straka was, and *why*, but (likely because I put this book down for months) I lost the plot. I think a rereading of the margins will refresh my memory and pull it all back into focus.
I like the idea that S. will reward subsequent readings, will reveal different details that I overlooked the first time through, but I don't like feeling that I don't have time to find them all.
Still, I'm very, very glad that I read this book and feel that it was worth the time and effort.

"Well, I think I'm on page 28. So far, I'm enjoying it, but it's a challenge to follow both the narrative of SOT *and* the narrative between the two characters, without feeling like I'm missing things. I've reread pages several times, trying not to lose my bearings."

"I decided to read SoT a chapter at a time, then go back and read the margins. The story has captivated me, and discovering new layers and mysteries literally between the lines has been tremendously satisfying for me.
QUESTION: If you read it, did you skip the later additions the first time through and go back, or read the orange and green bits as you came across them?"

"The margin notes in Chapter 6 ... wow. I'm completely engrossed in this book, and emotionally invested in people who don't even exist, but feel as real as any characters I've ever read in any book."

My sister and I are reading this together too. :) I recommend reading the text of a chapter first, then going back and read the margin notes. Easier to follow.

FWIW, Abrams said the best way to read it is just that, a chapter at a time, 1st SoT text, then the correspondence. Then of course he said there is no correct way and that it is up to the reader to decide.
I too hit upon the practice of reading a chapter at a time, then going back and reading the annotations. This book is somewhat more challenging than your average novel. :)
I am ever so intrigued after reading these comments. When I'm up for a reading challenge I'll check this one out.
Agree, hardcover. So many goodies to touch and play with. It has a very tactile aspect to the experience.
How would the kindle even handle all the post cards and that dial in the back? Can't wait to read it next month.
I've tried to read this book a few times but get completely confused. My native language is Spanish and even though I'm fluent in English I find this one so hard to read. I've tried reading the two parts at once, now I'm thinking of just reading the story and then re-read it with the notes on the margins.!!!
