This was a delight. The only thing I was really hoping for that wasn’t in here was one or two breakdowns of some specific real world tables. Also, I think it’s a failure to have completely ignored the pinball video game scene. It’s an interesting split in the community, where half favor a more of an arcade like experience in the gameplay with fantastical elements and unrealistic effects while others prefer a simulation of real-world physics and existing tables from companies like Williams. Those digital versions of older or hard-to-find tables are now accessible to a new generation of players. And I can tell you from my own experience, how important Microsoft 3-D pinball table Space Cadet was to an entire generation at a time when pinball in the real world was ebbing. Anyway, this was a charming book with a cute presentation and plenty of historical facts I wasn’t aware of. Definitely worth the read.
