4.5

Emelie has executive burnout and takes herself off into the countryside to try to find some peace. However as she settles in she notices a group of people share her space. Much as she wanted to be alone her attention becomes taken with a young man (whom she nicknames Poor Bastard because he appears to be apart from the others). As time goes on, Emelie comes to know the young man, Lorca, better and he eventually introduces her to the disparate group of refugees.

Annika Norlin gives us the history of each of the Colony's inhabitants and, as Emelie, comes to spend more time with them she sees their strengths but also their flaws. She will be the one who forces a change upon them all but what will that mean for each of the people trying desperately to escape from "normal" life.

I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Jessica Preddy. She had a good clear voice and I enjoyed listening to her. It is rare that I listen to a book at the speed it was intended but I wanted to prolong the book as long as possible.

The Colony is a fascinating novel that delves inside the minds of each of the characters. They are all sympathetic in their own way and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.

Highly recommended.

Thankyou to Netgalley and RB Media for the audio advance review copy.
