Ouff! This review is late, had a lot going on lately and although I found time to read, no time to write reviews!
I really enjoyed Hart's novel Weyward, so I was quite looking forward to this story. However, I was very disappointed. It starts out fairly strong, who doesn't want to know why a woman wakes up trying to strangle her ex-lover?? And the writing is lovely....but, so many buts.
It was boring for me, meandering all over the place, I couldn't get into the 1800's timeline at all, and although I love me some good fantasy and sci-fi, I just couldn't buy the girls turning into what? fish? mermaids? Or was this some complicated metaphor that went over my head?
I hate to DNF, so I plugged along, pushing myself to finish, but by the end I was skimming pages and had renamed the book "the never ending book". Sorry Ms. Hart, maybe next time....
