Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity, #1)

I did not like the voice of the main character in this book.
She was not convincing at all. It is impossible to believe that a woman captured by Nazis could be forced to expose British secrets and yet also, after undergoing torture, write insults about her captors.
I didn't like all the little bracketed asides (they sounded pert) , they sounded contrived (they were annoying).
I didn't want to read about planes.
After over 40 pages I was still waiting for the action to begin.
The main character - Verity - seemed shallow and self absorbed and yet was living during a terrible time, doing extraordinary things.
I'm amazed this won best book for anything.
I was too unimpressed with it to keep going.
TG it was a library book.
