It helped that I'd read the other four Cazalet books shortly before reading this one, as I don't think it would interest anyone who hadn't. There are far too many characters - it would have been better to have left out plot lines about the children's children, and focused on the main Cazalet members. There are also too many very short chapters, and it's a very choppy read; at one point I had difficulty figuring out which two characters Ms. Howard was writing about. She throws in the odd vulgarity that doesn't fit the characters and at the end, I didn't care about any of them, which is a pity.
