Alex Laws This is one of the many books i have read written by Lemony Snicket. In this book it talks about the Bouldelire children getting lost in the ocean. They are rescued by some of their long lost friends and find a home in their submarine. When they think that they are safe from Count Olaf they are sadly mistaken. They are trying to find the sugar bowl which is lost in the grotto. They go and try to receive it but never find it. They get back to the submarine and their leader is gone. They start the submarine on their own and drive it right into Olaf's clutches. They get taken hostage by him once again. He has also taken the leader of their submarine hostage as well. This book has differing tones. Some parts of the story has a very sad tone in some parts and a happy tone in other parts. Like when they found the submarine in the ocean that is an example of happiness. But now when they have found themselves in Olaf's clutches that is an example of sadness. But the overall tone i think would be suspenseful. Even though the tone varies throughout the book, suspense overruns them all. This book is full of suspenseful moments like the children getting captured by Count Olaf and other things. These are some quotes that show just how suspenseful this book really is. "We have never known anyone who could remain so cheerful, no matter what terrible things occurred." "They're like chefs salad, with good things and bad things chopped and mixed together in a vinaigrette of confusion and conflict." My stepfather said that, "The amount of treachery in this world is enormous, and that the best we could do was one small noble thing." In my opinion this is a very well written book. This book i could actually sit down and read for hours. I am not the type of person that reads in their free time but it is different with these books. The way that Lemony Snickett writes his books just always catches my attention for some reason. It may be the way he creates his predicaments in his books but I am just not sure. These types of books just are never boring to me. I have been reading these since i was in elementary school and I have yet to get bored with any of his work. This is why when i finish the series I will not hesitate to pick up book number one and start all over again just because I am sure these books will be just as good the second time I read them as they were the first.

Chappy if you have made it this far, the end is in sight and you will love book 12, book 13 is not as good but pretty good on its own.

Eve to me i like the end better

Joshua I'm going to warn you right now, the last book in the series is incredibly dissapointing. The Grim Grotto is one of the weaker ones. It really drags, not a lot happens. I felt that this book was kind of unnecessary. The last few after The Grim Grotto are definitely worth reading though.
