I actually got ahead of the deadline when doing the Pokemon Bit, so I immediately started this one. The main idea was to take a slightly complicated idea, and convey it in under 30 seconds. I ended up only needing around 20. This was primarily inspired by the old animated commercials by folks like Danny Antonucci, where cartoons needed to be conveyed in under 30 seconds, PLUS a logo. I think storytellers and animators could learn a lot from those old commercials.

As for the imp herself, Vi, we previously saw her in "The Imps' Scare Rating", being evaluated alongside her fellow troops under the Reaper himself. This time, we get to see why spookiness matters so much to the devils, as she is sent to her first assignment-- to scare the SOUL out of some guy. However, due to being crazy adorable, Vi is forced to find another way to get her soul-spookin' job done. You know, I think she's gonna make it just fine as a Reaper assistant.

This short used a TON of samples from the Distorted Reality Vol. 1 sample library, for the mystical theming of it. I love that library.

The man was meant to be ill-tempered and unkempt, friend of mine calls this character "Davey". He's got a briefcase full of pictures of CHEESE PIZZA... just so it doesn't feel too bad seeing him fall in the manhole. People Who Don't Know vs. People Who Know.

To end on a cute note, Vi's pose at the end is heavily inspired by the shots in Super Mario Sunshine, whenever you collect another Shine.
