Procedure:
1 Referto the ambient temperature ofthe sie for is minimum value through out the year.
2 Refer tothe "Nirogen Gas Pressure Curve” abel provided on the transformer
3 Select the appropriate curve as per Point 1 above
4 Find out the minimum oil temperatute from the ol temperature indicator ofthe transformer. willbe the same as ambient when
transformers not energised
5 Note the pressure/ vacuum on y-axis corresponding lo ll emperature onthe relevant curve. This lb the value at which the setting
of pressurelvacuum switch is o be done,
6 —_Setthe switch at the value found as per Point 5" above
7 Connect the Nitager pipe tothe nitrogen filing valve
8 Purge the gas for 10-15 minutes so that all the aris replaced with nitrogen
8 Now note curent ambient temperature and refer othe relevant curve
10 Note the curent oll temperature from ol temperature incicator
11 Note the coresponding pressure from the cuve
12 Close the release valve and build the pressure upto the level noted in Point 11" above
13 Remove the gas pipe. Close the cap tight on nitrogen valve
14 The transformer is now set fr correct pressure of Nitogen.
Precautions:
1 The gas pipe isnot old and no leak i therefrom regulator ee
2 Check the nitrogen valve isnot leaking, else pressure wil drop again.
Activity Risk:
NI As Nirogen isan inet and nanlammable gas.

‘.0 DISPOSAL AFTER USE :
‘Sccapped transformers may harm the envionment, they may, however, also representa value if treated correspondingly.
‘Some transformer comers prefer to sap used transformers themselves,
Ifnot, Raychem RPG have agreements with local wasle processing plants and may dspose of used vansformers taking sustainable development into
consideration.
Material isposaltechnologys continuously improving, tus the salvage vale of transformers expected to increasein te future, Transformers acquired
today may ater service life, .g. 20 yeas, represent a higher value than those scrapped today Its alko expected that matarals which today arent
recylabla maybe reateddiferany inthe future.
4,1 LOCAL REGULATIONS :-
Local regulations shall alvays be adhered to incsposing used transformers, Local auhorties may give guidance; also Internet community home
pages may give advice.
in doubt Raychem RPG factory can assis.
1.2 REUSE
‘Transformers conan valuable materia, which may be reused either as i or ater reprocessing,
Examples areF
* Copper
+ Aluminium
oi
+ Stoo!
“oRGO
+ Resin Cast Copper
“Resin impregnated Copper
Insulation material, pressboard and paper, represent energy.
4.3 LANDFILL
Materials not e-cicuated go to anil or energy production. The landfill portion ofthe transformer shouldbe minimized
‘4 UFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA)
‘The environmental impact of ransfrmers may be divided ito fie fe cycle calegoriesk
1 Raw material extraction, manufacturing and transport
2. Transformer production
3. Transportto site
4 Energy losses during service
5. Disposal ater use
LCA calculations show that catagories 1,2 and 3 are negligible compared to 4
‘Apart of category 1is regained during disposal, provided reuse of materials or enerayextracton,
Lifecycle assessment shows tha the dominating anvizonmentalimpact curing a transformers He is anergy losses during sarvice. The total losses consist of
load losses and noloadlosses, bth ae significant. The relation between load and no loadlosses depends onthe transformer loading
415 PCB -Contaiminated ol
PCB was used in many ways and was included in several diferent products, including transformer and condenser oll, however i is harmful to the
environment and develops cancer-causing dixides uring normalcombuston. The use of PCBisnawprohidited.
