1199 SEIU Announces Its Endorsement of New York

State Assembly Candidate Hector Ramirez

(New York, NY) 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East today announced their
endorsement of District Leader Hector Ramirez for the New York State Assembly in the
86th District.

Ramirez’ efforts in the Bronx reflect his passion for community service. He has worked
in partnership with grassroots organizations and elected officials to demand more living
wage jobs, health care, education and affordable housing to one of the poorest areas in
the nation.

In 2002, Ramirez was elected to the 86 Assembly as District Leader where he has been
th

re-elected three times. As District Leader, Ramirez has served a densely populated area
encompassing University Heights, Tremont, and the Morris Heights section of the Bronx,
as a non-paid liaison for the community to government agencies, elected and Democratic
Party officials and community organizations. His hard work has earned Ramirez a
reputation as an honest, accountable and responsible leader.

“The healthcare workers of 1199 SEIU are proud to endorse Hector Ramirez for New
York State Assembly,” said Kevin Finnegan, 1199 SEIU Political Director. “Hector
knows first-hand the daily struggles working people face in trying to provide and care for
their families during these difficult times. Hector’s dedication to the community proves
that he’ll be a strong advocate in Albany who will fight for the issues critical to the future
and well-being of working families.”

"I am extremely honored," said Hector Ramirez. "I am humbled to have the support of
the hardworking men and women of 1199 SEIU. 1199 has always been at the forefront,
protecting the rights not only of workers, but also the everyday citizens of New York and
around the world. I look forward to working with 1199 to continue to bring reform to
Albany and to our nation’s healthcare system.”
1199 SEIU represents 275,000 healthcare workers in New York State and will work to
mobilize the membership on Ramirez’ behalf. The union plans to direct mail, phone-
bank and go door-to-door to all members and retirees in the district.
