Class 10th Chapter 2 - Polynomials Test by RVS Institute
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
All questions are compulsory. There is no overall choice.
The question paper consists of 10 questions divided into four sections A, B, C and D.
Section A contains 2 question of 1 mark each. Section B contains 2 questions of 2 marks each. Section C contains 3
questions of 3 marks each. Section D contains 3 questions of 4 marks each.
Use of calculators is not permitted.
SECTION A
1. State whether 𝑥 − 4 is factor of 4𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 4. 1
1
2. State whether − 2 is zero of 4𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 4. 1
SECTION B
3. Divide the polynomial 𝑓(𝑥) = 9𝑥 4 − 4𝑥 2 + 4 by the polynomial 𝑔(𝑥) = 3𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 1. Also find the
quotient and remainder. 2
4. If 𝑥 − 1 is a factor of polynomial 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 3 −2𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 𝑘, write the value of 𝑘. 2
SECTION C
5. If 𝑎𝑥 3 + 4𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 4 and 𝑥 3 − 4𝑥 + 𝑎 are divided by 𝑥 − 3 and the remainder in both the case are same,
Find the value of 𝑎. 3
6. If two zeroes of the polynomial 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 3 − 4𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 12 are √3 and −√3, find its third zero. 3
7. If α and β are the zeroes of polynomial 𝑝(𝑥) = 4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 − 3, find the value of 𝛼 5 𝛽 6 + 𝛼 6 𝛽 5 . 3
SECTION D
8. If the polynomial 6𝑥 4 + 8𝑥 3 + 17𝑥 2 + 21𝑥 + 7 is divided by another polynomial 3𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 1, the
remainder comes out to be 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏, find a and b. 4
9. Find the quotient if 𝑓(𝑥) = 3𝑥 2 − 𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 + 5 is divided by 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 − 1 − 𝑥 2 . Also verify the
division algorithm. 4
10. Factorise the following polynomials: 4
(i) 8𝑥 3 + 125
(ii) 4𝑥 2 + 9𝑦 2 + 16𝑧 2 + 12𝑥𝑦 − 24𝑦𝑧 − 16𝑥𝑧.
