Transformer Power Factor Test

The document discusses transformer power factor testing which involves measuring the capacitance and power factor of various parts of the transformer in a de-energized state. This includes measuring the insulation between the high voltage windings and ground (CH), between the low voltage windings and ground (CL), and between the high and low voltage windings (CHL). The results are analyzed to evaluate the condition of the transformer insulation and detect any deterioration or faults.

Transformer Power Factor Test

Transformer Testing
Tests Performed in De-Energized State of Transformer :
• Capacitance and Power Factor
–Windings to ground and to each other
–Oil
–Bushings
–Arresters
Transformer Construction
Transformer Insulation Model
• For Overall tests,
High transformer insulation is
Voltage sectioned into three
Windings groups:
– CH
– CL
CH – CHL
CHL • Reasons
CL – Better assessment of the
individual components.
– Reduces chance of a
Low problem being masked

When to Do Test
• Acceptance
– Establish a baseline
– Make sure you get what you paid for
• Routine
– Establish Trend
– Preventative Maintenance
• Troubleshoot
– Disturbance on system, suspected fault
