2 Overview of the EMU User Guide

2.1 Functions of the EMU

This describes the functions of the environment monitoring unit (EMU). Providing a variety of
input ports for monitoring signals, the EMU supports real-time monitoring and remote
monitoring. In addition, the EMU is highly reliable and can be flexibly configured. It supports
a large area for temperature monitoring.

Power Input
l The EMU supports input voltage detection. The alarm threshold for the input voltage can
be configured on the BTS/NodeB and delivered to the EMU.
l The EMU provides two power input ports, which are protected from inverse connections.
l The range of voltage input is -36 V DC to -72 V DC.

Environment Monitoring
l The EMU provides an independent port for 12 V/24 V DC current-type (4 mA - 20 mA)
humidity/temperature sensors. The temperature monitoring range is -20oC [-4oF] to 80oC
[176oF].
l The EMU provides four ports for monitoring analog signals. Voltage-type (0 V - 5 V)
sensors and current-type (4 mA - 20 mA) sensors can be used. The types of monitored
analog signals can be configured through the DIP switch settings according to the BTS/
NodeB configuration.

Boolean Signal Monitoring

The EMU provides 32 ports for monitoring Boolean signals. Dry contact point signals and OC
signals are supported.

Relay Node Control

The EMU provides six output control ports for external Boolean signals of the relay node type.

Communication Ports
The EMU provides two RS-485 ports, which is used for the communication between the EMU
and the BTS/NodeB.

2.2 Exterior of the EMU

This describes the exterior of the two EMU models.

2.4 Communication Ports on the EMU

The EMU provides the RS485 and RS232 ports for the communication between the EMU and
the BTS/NodeB.

2.4.1 RS485 Serial Port

This describes the RS485 serial port on the EMU. Two RS485 serial ports are used in active/
standby mode for the communication between the EMU and the BTS/NodeB. The RS485 serial
port is suitable for a dedicated serial port that has a DB-9 male connector.
2.4.2 RS232 Serial Port
This describes the RS232 serial port on the EMU. An RS232 serial port is an RJ-45 socket and
suitable for a dedicated serial port cable that has an RJ-45 plug.

NOTE

l The signals shown in this table are defined in terms of transmission and reception by the EMU.
l When the TXD+ pin is connected to the RXD+ pin and the TXD- pin is connected to the RXD- pin,
the RS485 serial port can be used for two-wire connection.
l The EMU works properly even if only one RS485 serial port is connected. It is recommended that you
use two RS-485 serial ports in active/standby mode. In this case, set serial port 1 to the active port.

2.4.2 RS232 Serial Port

This describes the RS232 serial port on the EMU. An RS232 serial port is an RJ-45 socket and
suitable for a dedicated serial port cable that has an RJ-45 plug.

compressed, and the reed touches pins A and B, as shown in Figure 3-6.

Figure 3-6 Working principle of the AGX105F door status sensor

The HO-03A door status sensor consists of a dry finger pipe and a magnetic ferrite. The dry
finger pipe consists of two soft magnetic metal fingers that are close to each other. When the
magnetic ferrite is close to the dry finger pipe, the fingers are magnetized and attracted to each
other. When the magnetic field no longer covers the fingers, the fingers spring apart.

User Guide 5 Installing the Sensors

Context
The requirements for the installation of the smoke sensor are as follows:

l If the smoke sensor is to be installed in the center of the ceiling, ensure that:
– There is no obstacle within a 0.5 m [1.64 ft] radius of the smoke sensor.
– The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the blast vent of the air-
conditioner is greater than 1.5 m [4.92 ft].
– The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the air vent in the ceiling is
greater than 0.5 m [1.64 ft].
– The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the air vent of the air-conditioner
is greater than 1.5 m [4.92 ft].
l The smoke sensor is suitable for detecting fires that have smolder during the initial stage
and emit large amounts of smoke. Do not install the smoke sensor at locations where:
– Black smoke is emitted during fires.
– No smoke or little smoke is edited during fires.
– The relative humidity is constantly greater than 95%.
– The airflow rate is greater than 5 m/s.
– Large amounts of dust or water smoke is suspended.
– Corrosive gas may be emitted.
– Smoke is suspended under normal circumstances.
– Organic substances, such as alcohol, ether, and ketone are generated.
l Before powering on the smoke sensor, ensure that the smoke sensor is correctly connected.
Thirty seconds after the smoke sensor is powered on, the red indicator will start to blink
once every 9 to 15 seconds.
l Dust easily accumulates on the smoke sensor. Therefore, clear the dust periodically to avoid
false alarms.
l To protect the smoke sensor from dirt, do not remove the dust cover before using the sensor.

CAUTION
l The smoke sensor cannot work without the power supply. Therefore, the smoke sensor does
not work if the power supply is interrupted.
l To avoid damage to the smoke sensor, do not directly use +24 V DC input voltage for the
smoke sensor.

NOTE

l The smoke sensor can be connected only to the terminals marked "Smoke&24VS".
l The smoke sensor generates alarms when there is smoke or fire. You have to run an associated command
to clear the alarms.

Procedure
Step 1 Install the smoke sensor in the selected position.

caliducts.
l The infrared sensor should directly face positions prone to unauthorized entry.
l The infrared sensor should not be installed on the wall beside the door.
l The monitoring range should be clear of obstacles so that the infrared sensor can be directly
seen in the monitoring range.
l The Fresnel lens of the infrared sensor should be kept clean.
l The pyroelectric components of the infrared sensor should not be touched.
NOTE

5.5 Installing the Humidity/Temperature Sensor

This describes how to install the humidity/temperature sensor.

Context
The requirements for the installation of the humidity/temperature sensor are as follows:

l Generally, the humidity/temperature sensor should be installed on a wall and about 1.5 m
[4.92 ft] above the ground.
l Around the humidity/temperature sensor, ventilation should be good, and the airflow rate
is 0.1 m/s to 1 m/s.
NOTE

l The humidity/temperature sensor cannot be installed in a position with no or little airflow.

l The humidity/temperature sensor cannot be installed in a position with too rapid airflow, for
example, the air vent in the ceiling or the blast vent of an air-conditioner.
l Do not install the humidity/temperature sensor in a position where:
– There is no air conditioning.
– The relative humidity is constantly higher than 90%.
– The temperature is constantly below -20oC [-4oF].
– The wind of an air cooling machine or air heating machine can directly blows the
humidity/temperature sensor.
– The air is polluted by substances such as sour gas and oily gas.
l The humidity/temperature sensor should be kept away from the ends of the cabling trough.
l The installation plane should be clean.
l The humidity/temperature sensor should be powered off before the sensor is installed or
replaced.
l Holes should not be drilled around the humidity/temperature sensor after the sensor is
installed. If you have to do so, take appropriate measures to protect the sensor from dust.
l The humidity-sensitive components of the humidity/temperature sensor should not be
touched.

CAUTION
l To avoid mechanical and electrostatic damage to the humidity/temperature sensor, be
cautious when moving the box cover and the circuit board and when connecting the wires.
When moving the circuit board, hold its edges and take care not to touch its components.
Place the circuit board in a clean position.
l You need to calibrate the humidity/temperature sensor annually. Replace it if its precision is
too low.
