Engine Crankshaft Balancing Calculation

This document contains calculations to determine the balancing of a 3-cylinder engine crankshaft. Mass properties and dimensions are provided for each crankshaft component. The rotating mass and reciprocating mass are calculated for one cylinder. The couples due to rotating mass and imaginary reciprocating mass are found. The total couple is determined and used to calculate the balancing couple required from two counterweights to balance the crankshaft. The calculated counterweight mass closely matches that of a 3D model, with less than 0.001 difference.
