Campus Network Design


Project Scope

The aim of this assignment is for students BCS 2 and BIT 2 in a group of 5 students to design
a campus network for a small college in Dar-es-salaam.

College Description

The college has a total of 100 users. That is, 30 users in the main building, 30 users in
building 1, and 40 users in building 2. Every building has a lobby which is 20 square meters
open space. The distance between building 1 and the main building is 300 meters. The
distance between building 2 and the main building is 90 meters. The distance between
building 1 and building 2 is 70 meters. A high speed cable internet connection is available in
the main building which needs to be shared among the users. As a network engineer, please
devise the necessary equipments, medium, and appropriate topology required for the campus
network design along with the IP address schema (IP addresses assignments and
management). Provisioning of secure wireless access, network sharing features and services
should also be worked out in this assignment.

Required Contents:

1. Physical Campus diagram (7 Marks)


2. Network requirement analysis (Understanding the hardware and quantity required to
setup the network) (7 Marks)
3. Architectural Network diagram with appropriate components (7 Marks)
4. The services and features required to be setup and configured on the identified
hardware for the solution presented to work (7 Marks)
5. Guidelines for IP address management and usage on the network (10 Marks)
6. Plans for future extension, including new campuses opening out of Dar-es-salaam (7
Marks)
7. Provide adequate justifications for any design decision and choice you make (5
Marks)
8. Each solution presented need to be unique i.e. no plagiarism
