1. Given the vectors A = 3ax + 4ay + az and B = 2ay — 5az. Find [5M]
(a) A x B (b) A • B (c) Angle between A and B (d) Scalar component of A along B
(e) Vector component of B along A.

2. (a) The surfaces p = 3,p = 5,0 = 100°, = 130°, z = 3 and z = 4.5 define a closed surface in meters.
Find the straight line vector of largest magnitude within the volume and give its magnitude. [2M]
(b) Find constant a, b, and c so that vector A = (x + 2y + az)ax + (bx — 3y — z)ay + (4x + cy + 2z)az is
irrotational. [3M]

3. Derive the expression of electric field E due to an infinite line charge (use Gauss's law). [5M]

4. (a) Derive the expression of capacitance of spherical capacitor shown in Fig. la. [5M]
(b) If Fig. lb represents the cross sections of two spherical capacitors, determine their capacitances. Let
a =1 n-un, b = 3 nun, c = 2 nun, ei-1 = 2.5, and 6,2 = 3.5. [5M]

5. (a) Derive the boundary condition of electric field at the interface of two dielectric materials. [5M]
(b) A dielectric interface is defined by 4x +3y = 10 m. The region including the origin is free space, where
DI = 2ax — 4ay + 6.5az nC/m2. In other region, Er2 = 2.5. Find D2 and the angle 02 that D2 makes with
the normal. [5M]

6. Derive the expression of magnetic field H due to an infinite sheet current. [5M]

7. A current distribution gives rise to the vector magnetic potential A = x2yax +y2xay, + 4xya, Wb/m. Calculate:
(a) B at (-1, 2,5), (b) flux through the surface defined by z = 1, 0 < x < 1, — 1 < y < 4. [6M]

8. Write the Maxwell's equations of static electric & magnetic fields in both differential & integral form. [4M]

(b) Two infinite uniform sheet of charge each with density ps ChT12 are located at x=±2m. (2)
Determine E in all regions.

Q.6 The volume in cylindrical coordinate between r=3 m and r=6 m contains a uniform (2)
charge density 2p C/m3 . Use Gauss law to find D in all regions.

Q.7 A point charge Q is located at point (p,0,q) between two semi-infinite conducting planes (3)
intersecting at right angles. Determine electric potential at point P (a,b,c) and net force
acting on Q.

Q.8 State Ampere's circuital law and derive magnetic field intensity due to an infinite line (5)
current.
