Renowned Indian-born American Scientist, Educator
and Entrepreneur took charge of the Vice-Chairman
& Chief Executive Officer of the Science City of
Andhra Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh on June 06, 2016,
works under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister
Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Hon’ble Shri. Y.S.
Chowdary, Union Minister of State for Science &
Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of
India.
Additionally, he is the Chief Science Adviser to the
Hon’ble Chief Minister and Convener to the CM’s Scientific Advisory Committee. He is a Non
Resident Indian (Telugu) comes to the mother land after 30 years of academic and
entrepreneurial accomplishments in USA.
After receiving his PhD from the Molecular Biology Unit of the Banaras Hindu University in 1986
under the supervision of Late Drs. Debi P. Burma and Maharani Chakravorty, he immigrated to
USA and conducted his post-doctoral training at Tufts and Boston University. Later, Dr.
Appasani worked with Nobel laureate late Har Gobind Khorana as a Research Associate during
September 1991 to May 2014 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA.
Later he served in the faculty of Harvard University Medical School. He also received an MBA in
1998 from Bryant University, USA, and worked at high-tech and life-science industry. He has
published several break-through research papers in reputed professional journals and edited
ten seminal books in Biomedicine from the esteemed Cambridge University Press, England.
Since one and half-decade, Dr. Appasani is promoting ‘global science education’ by organizing
theme conferences by connecting academic and industry scientists. Dr. Appasani is the
youngest recipient of Ranbaxy Science Foundation’s (New Delhi, India) Award for his
pioneering work in Applied Medical Sciences. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of
Biologists (London, UK), Andhra Pradesh Akademy of Sciences (Amaravati, AP India), and a
Member of the American Association for Advancement of Science (Washington, DC, USA).
