On main taskbar click on Assign and Frame loads and select the Distributed. New box
is opened as shown below. Select the Wall loads in Load Pattern Name, keeping in
view that the height of bottom, i.e., 10ft is different from the other Floors, i.e, 12 ft For
Outer Walls of Floors other than bottom Floor:

Uniform Load= Height of Wall* Thickness of Wall* Density of bricks

=12*0.75*0.125=1.125kip/ft. for Outer

Walls for Partition walls of Floors other than bottom
Floor:
Uniform Load= Height of Wall* Thickness of Wall* Density of bricks

=12*0.375*0.125=0.563kip/ft for
Outer Walls of Bottom Floor:
Uniform Load= Height of Wall* Thickness of Wall* Density of bricks

=10*0.75*0.125=0.938 kip/ft For Outer

Walls For Partition walls of Bottom Floor:
Uniform Load= Height of Wall* Thickness of Wall* Density of bricks
=10*0.375*0.125= 0.469kip/ft

Firstly, select the outer wall, put value of uniform load. Same as select all inner walls of
the Floors , put values and then click on apply. Wall loads are shown below.

First of all perform the procedure for storey 1 as its height is 10 ft which is different from
other floor heights of 12 ft.For this purpose choose “one storey” from bottom and go to
Floor 1.Then start assigning that floor its Frame Loads.

Page | 29
Snow Load:
Snow load depends upon the snow depth of that area and other factors. In our case we will
use 40 psf.It should only be applied at the top floor which is #10 in my case.So go to 10th
Floor and apply Snow Load.

Page | 30
Floor Finish Load:

According to the IS-875[part 1] the floor finish for residential building is range from
1.92.9KN/m^2.We take 2.9 KN/m^2 for exterior Balconies and for others we take their
value as 1.9 KN/m^2.Even we have no exterior Balconies I will take 2.5KN/m^2[52.2
psf] keeping in view factor of safety and other considerations.

Assignment # 04
 Based On DDM/Strip Design:
 Strip Width Calculation:
For the Design of slabs on the basis of DDM we have to first calculate the Width of Column
and Middle Strip, as we know that:

As the Column strip width in each side=.25L1 or .25L2 (whichever is smaller)

Hence the Column strip width in each side
 Column strip width in each side =calculate by multiplying .25 with shorter
length
 And the Width of Middle strip= Total C/C length of E.R.F – Column Strip width
As the length of E.R.F is different in both axis/direction,
 The width of middle strips in x axis = 4.75’
 The width of middle strips in x axis = 4.75’ Design Steps:
Now Unlock The model to remove or delete the previous analysis and design results and to
continue the DDM based design or strip design.

Page | 47
Now select the similar stories option in the bottom tab and then click on Draw Design Strip icon
in the left most tab to draw the Column and middle Strips.

Page | 48
Now Press Ctrl+W and select the following options from the popup menu to Display the design
strip width.

Now Input data as Shown to draw the Respective Column and Middle Strips in both directions as
