1 General Information
(1) System recovery includes operating system (Windows XP) recovery and ultrasound
application software (Doppler software) recovery.
(2) Determine current software version: turn on the machine, press F10 key and click on
[About].Write down current UPG Version number.
(3) Consult Mindray for the latest software version and how to order or download the software
package.
(4) Depending on the software version, it is usually required to recover operating system
(Windows XP) and application software together. All user installed drivers, for example,
printer driver, will be erased during the Windows XP recovery. You will have to reinstall
them after the software recovery.
(5) Always keep the DC-7 connected to AC power during the software recovery.

2 You May Need the Following Items
DISC1: Windows XP, bootable DVD
Note: Only required for a DC-7 with BIOS version lower than
06.67.12.

The BIOS software file is located under the folder:
\SOFTWARE\BIOS Software
Note:
1. If you download the recovery software from TDP, make sure correct folder is selected.
2. The following picture shows the content on the application software disc. The content
may vary depending on software version.

3 Data Backup
3.1 Backup user presets
The hospital information under Region tab, and all the network settings
including DICOM settings, will not be saved in the preset data file. You could capture
screenshots of the setting pages to keep a copy.
Even though patient data, including patient info, images, cine loops and reports,
usually will not be affected during the recovery, for safety consideration, Mindray
strongly recommends having all the patient data backed up before the recovery.
Refer to operator’s manual for detailed instructions of how to backup and restore patient data.

4 Check BIOS Version
If the DC-7’s UPG version is at 03.02.00(Rev63192) or higher, this step is not necessary.
Continue to section 5 Windows XP Recovery.
(1) Turn on the DC-7. Repeatedly press F2 key when the DC-7 displays the first startup screen.
If the BIOS version is 06.67.12 or higher, press ESC key to exit to main BIOS menu to
continue. If it is not, proceed to Appendix A to update BIOS first.

5 Windows XP Recovery
If you prefer to recover application software only, skip this step and proceed to 6 Application
Software Recovery.
5.1 Change BIOS settings to boot from DVD
(1) Turn on theDC-7. Put the DISC 1: Windows XP, bootable DVD into the DVD drive, and then
turn off theDC-7.
(2) Turn on the DC-7 again. Repeatedly press F2 key until the BIOS password input screen is
displayed.
(6) Use up and down arrow keys to select [USB CDROM]. Press and hold SHIFT key and tap+
key (plus key) to move [USB CDROM] all the way up to the top of the list.

(7) Press ESC key to exit. Use left and right arrow keys to select [Exit] menu. Use up and down
arrow keys to select [Save CMOS to Flash], and then press Enter key.
(8) Select [Exit Saving Changes], then press Enter key.
(9) Use left and right arrow keys to select [Yes] in the dialog box, then press Enter key. The
machine will reboot automatically.
5.2 Windows XP Recovery from DVD
(1) The system is restarting. After the first boot picture disappears, the screen blacks out and
shows “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD…”
Note: The message slips through in a very short time, approximate 2 seconds. Please
take the time to press any key on alphanumeric keyboard to boot from the software
DVD. If missed, turn off the DC-7 and repeat the procedure again.
(2) Shortly after Windows XP booting picture disappears, a DOS window displays the message
like below:
(3) Press any key on alphanumeric keyboard to continue. Windows XP installation process lasts
about 15 minutes. Do not interrupt the installation.
(4) After installation is complete, A DOS message like below is displayed:

(5) Press any key on alphanumeric keyboard to restart the system.
(6) During restarting, message “Press any key to boot from CD…” will be displayed again. Do
not press any key. The installation will continue in several seconds.
(7) After system restarts, Windows XP Setup Window is displayed. When it asks to create a
user account, do not change anything. Click on [Next] to continue.
(8) After the setup is finished, the system will restart again and enter Windows XP desktop.

6 Application Software Recovery
6.1 Application Software Recovery
(1) Turn on the DC-7 and put the DISC 2: Application Software into the DVD drive. Or, plug the
USB drive with the application software (unzipped) into aDC-7 USB port.
(2) If you skipped Windows XP recovery, follow the procedures below to enter Windows
desktop. Otherwise, continue to step (3).
a) From ultrasound main screen, click on the [Session Manager], snowman-like icon at
the lower right corner. Click on [Change User] to display the login dialog, and then hold
Shift key and tapF6 key on the PC keyboard. If the icon is not displayed on the tray,
hold Shift key and tapF6 key on the PC keyboard to bring out the login dialog.
b) Click on the [User Name] drop-down list and select [Service]. Enter password and click
on [Login] to enter service mode.
c) Press F10 key Æ[Maintenance]Æ[Enter Windows].
(3) Explore the DVD or USB flash drive (Removable Disk) in My Computer; double click on the
Run batch file to start the application software installation.
(4) The installation process lasts about 10 minutes. When it asks if you want to delete the user
presets, type in N and press Enter key to keep current presets, or type in Y and press Enter
key to use the new factory default presets.
Note: Generally speaking, new factory default presets have the latest settings for optimal
performance. Mindray recommends loading new factory default presets instead of using
presets from previous software.
(5) You may see a warning message in red color “Cannot read the product information
file! ...”. It’s normal.

(6) Press Enter key to shutdown the DC-7. Disconnect the USB flash drive if applicable.
If you did not install Windows XP, this step is not necessary. Proceed to section7 Verification.
(1) Turn on the DC-7. Repeatedly press F2 key until the BIOS password input screen is
displayed.
(5) Use up and down arrow keys to select [IDE] hard drive. Press and hold SHIFT key and tap+
key (plus key) to move [IDE] all the way up to the top of the list.

(6) Press ESC key to exit. Use left and right arrow keys to select [Exit] menu. Use up and down
arrow keys to select [Save CMOS to Flash], and then press Enter key.
(7) Select [Exit Saving Changes], then press Enter key.
(8) Use left and right arrow keys to select [Yes] in the dialog box, then press Enter key. The
machine will reboot automatically.

7 Touch Screen Calibration
(1) Log into service user as instructed in section 6.1 Application Software Recovery.
(2) Press F10 key on the PC keyboard Æ[Maintenance].
(3) Click on [Touch Calibrate] in Touch Screen menu.
(4) On the touch screen, follow the cursor indication to press on the cross marks one by one
until there is a prompt showing that the calibration is done.
(5) Click on [OK] and [Exit].
8 Check/Install Option keys
Press F10 key on the PC keyboardÆ[System Preset]Æ[Option] to check the status of the
options. If you need to install any options, follow the procedure below.
(1) Plug the USB flash drive which contains the option key files into the DC-7. If the key files
come in a zip file, unzip it to a USB flash drive.
(2) Turn on the DC-7. Press F10 key Æ[System Preset] Æ[Option].
(3) Highlight the option in the left column that you want to install, and then click on [Install] on
the right side.
(4) Locate the key file on the USB drive and click on [OK].

(5) Follow the same procedure to install other options.
9 Verification
(1) Go to [About] in Setup menu and verify the UPG version number.
(2) Check system functions for proper operation.
Check the functions of installed options, peripherals, measurement packages, DICOM and
others. Reconfigure them if necessary.
If Windows XP is recovered, you may need to reinstall and configure printers.

Appendix A - BIOS Update
(1) Follow the instructions in Appendix B to make a bootable BIOS update USB flash drive if
you do not have one.
(2) Plug the bootable BIOS update USB flash drive into the DC-7 and turn on the DC-7.
(3) When the system restarts, repeatedly press the F2 key until the DC-7 displays the first
startup screen.
(4) Enter password and press Enter key.
(5) Set BIOS to boot from the USB flash drive.
On BIOS main menu, use arrow keys to navigate to [Boot] menu. Press Enter to display
[Boot Order] screen.
Use arrow keys to select [USB KEY] or [USB HDD] (depending on which one is recognized
by the DC-7). Hold the Shift key and tap+ key (plus key) to move [USB KEY] or [USB HDD]
to the top of the list. Press ESC key to exit.

Select [Exit Saving Changes], then press Enter key twice to reboot the DC-7.
(7) System will boot from the USB drive. You will see the message below.
(8) When BIOS update is complete, system will restart automatically. Remove the BIOS Update
USB flash drive.

Appendix B - Make Bootable BIOS Update USB Drive
(1) Extract the BIOS update software zip file to a folder on a computer running on Windows
operating system. (This guide uses Windows XP operating system as an example). The
target folder should contain the files and folders as shown in the picture below.
(4) Double click on the HPUSBFormatter.exe program. The [InstallShield Wizard] is displayed
Click on [Next], then [Yes] at the license agreement page, then [Next] at the choose
destination page, then [Finish].
(5) Insert a blank USB flash drive, which capacity must be lower than 2G, into the computer.
(6) Run program HPUSBFW.EXE which can be found at location C:\DriveKey folder, and the
window below is displayed.

(7) In Device, select the blank USB flash drive plugged in. (USB drive name may vary from the
one in the picture above)
(8) Set File system to FAT.
(9) Select [Quick Format].
(10) Select [Create a DOS startup disk] and [using DOS system files located at].
(11) Click on the small button on the right side of the column to browse to
C:\USB_Boot\freedos then click on [OK] to accept.
(12) Click on [Start] to format the blank USB flash drive to make it bootable.
(13) The warning information below is displayed; click [Yes].

(14) You will see a progress bar then a message “Format completed successfully”. lose all
the windows.
(15) A bootable USB flash drive is produced.
(16) Go back to folder contains the BIOS software. Copy all the content in the sub-folder
BIOS update files to the root directory of the bootable USB flash drive.
(17) Remove the bootable BIOS Update USB flash drive from the computer.
