BLOCKS IN ARNIS

1. INSIDE BLOCK - This type of block can be used to deflect strike 1 and 3. To perform, from your
attention stance, step your right foot to your right side, place the stick vertically up, with your
grip down, and your left arm supporting the stick with palm facing forward deflecting the strike.
2. OUTSIDE BLOCK – This type of block can be used to deflect strike 2 and 4. To perform, from
attention stance, step your left foot to your left side. Place the stick vertically up, with your grip
down, and your left arm supporting with your palm, face on the upper part of your stick,
deflecting a strike.
3. DOWNWARD INSIDE BLOCK – This type of block can be used to deflect strike no.9. To perform,
raise your right arm, placing it to the right side of your head, with stick to right back side of your
head. Execute a forehand downward strike, from right to center to counter attack the strike.
4. DOWNWARD OUTSIDE BLOCK – This type of block can be used to deflect no. 8. To perform, raise
your arm placing at the left side of your head, just above your shoulder, execute a backward
downward strike from left to center to counter attack the strike.
5. RISING BLOCK – This type of block can be used to deflect no. 12. To perform, step your left foot
and back knees bent slightly. Raise your stick above your head diagonally. With your grip place
higher than the end of the stick, support the stick with your left arm by placing your open palm
behind the stick facing outside.
6. VERTICAL BLOCK – This type of block can be used to block strike no. 5. To perform, place the
stick vertically down to your right side slightly Infront of you, grip in shoulder level, while your
left arms palm facing away from you, place behind the stick for support, once the thrust of the
opponent’s come, block the attack by moving the stick from Right or left.
