Lean Manufacturing
After World War II, the Toyota Company was reconstructing, and the major problem
it was facing was lack of enough funds and scarcity of resources. Toyota Company came up
with the lean manufacturing process, which was based on Ford's manufacturing process, and
incorporated them with the Statistical control theories of Edwards Deming (Dave, 2020). The
lean manufacturing process mainly focused on reducing wastage of the already scarce
resources as well as raising the quality of their products. Toyota Company also faced a
challenge of overproduction which relatively hindered the flow of resources, degrading the
quality of their products and reducing their productivity. The adoption of the lean
producing what was needed to be produced. Lean manufacturing also involved employees in
the manufacturing process by allowing them to make some critical decisions, which boosted
their morale and made them more productive in their work. All in all, the Toyota Company
mainly adopted lean manufacturing to eliminate unnecessary waste and improve their
productivity as a company.
