Overview
This plugin facilitates easy interfacing between SDRuno and several Black Cat Systems
programs, namely:
• Black Cat HF Weather Fax
• Black Cat SSTV
• DX ToolBox
It allows the apps to set the frequency in SDRuno, as well as be informed of frequency changes,
eliminating the need for virtual COM ports.
It allows annotation of the waterfall display with real time SWBC schedule information from DX
Toolbox.
It also sends demodulated audio from SDRuno to the SSTV and Weather Fax apps for
decoding purposes, eliminating the need for virtual sound devices.
Operation
Launch the plugin from the SDRuno Plugin Control Panel. You should see this window:
Verify that the bottom status message says “UDP Socket bind OK”. If not, verify that you do not
have any firewall settings prohibiting apps from using networking.
Please see the documentation for each of the Black Cat Systems programs for configuration on
that end. in general, all that is necessary is to configure the app to use the SDRuno Plugin in the
Preferences panel for the app.
Annotations
When DXToolBox is running and its Shortwave Broadcast Schedules window is open, you can
check the Annotate checkbox in the plugin, and see annotations of SWBC stations currently on
the air. Check the Colored checkbox if you want the annotations to be colored rather than just
white, to make it easier to distinguish different frequencies. Note that SDRuno has a limitation of
64 annotations, so depending on the spectrum width, not all may be displayed.
Streaming Audio
Audio can be streamed from SDRuno to several Black Cat Systems decoding apps. See the
documentation for each app, in general all that is necessary is to select Streaming as the sound
input source, after configuring the app to use the SDRuno Plugin. When this is selected,
“Streaming off” in the plugin window will be replaced by a status that increments about once per
second to show streaming Is active and audio data is being sent.
In general, the Start and Stop pushbuttons in the plugin do not need to be used as the app will
automatically control streaming. They are available should it be necessary to manually start or
stop streaming.
Checking Mute in the plugin will mute the audio locally, but it will still be streamed to the app.
This can be handy if you do not want to hear the demodulated audio while decoding it. Note that
the volume slider and mute button within SDRuno itself do affect the level of the audio that gets
streamed, so you cannot mute or drop the volume to zero that way, you need to use the Mute
checkbox in the plugin.
Downloading Black Cat Systems Programs
Please note that at present only the latest beta versions of these programs support the plugin.
