III. PROCEDURES
A. ELICIT
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Good morning class! Good morning ma’am

Please stand up, bow your heads and feel the Our Father who art in heaven…
presence of the Lord. All together we pray “Our
Father”.

Please sit down and check our attendance. When I Yes ma’am!
called your name, instead of saying present, say
“MAGANDA SI MA’AM” if you are here.
Understood?

(Checking the attendance) Students will stand up and say “MAGANDA SI

MA’AM”
Very good class we have a complete attendance
today!

Who can tell me something about our previous Students will raise their hands, and expected
lesson? answer is: Functions and Relations

Very good!

What is a relation? Students’ expected answer: Relations is the set of

ordered pairs where elements of one set are paired
with the elements of another set.

How about functions? Students’ expected answer: Functions is a relation

in which no to ordered pairs have the same first
coordinates.

B. ENGAGE
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Before we proceed to our lesson, we will have a Count 1, 2, and 3 to divide the class into three
preliminary activity. The class will be divided into groups.
three (3) groups by counting 1, 2, and 3.

Group 1 will be on the right side, group 2 will be in Students will go to their respective groups.
the middle, and group 3 will be on the left side.

Class, listen carrefully. The class will pay attention.

As you can see on the board, there are 3 sets of

ordered pairs, and each group will identify the
domain and range. The numbers are removable, and
below is the space provided for sticking the given
numbers. The arrangement must be in open
parenthesis, domain, comma, range, and close
parenthesis.

Note: Each member of the group must answer only

one pair of domain and range. The correct paired
domain and range are equivalent to 1 point. A total
of 5 points overall.

You only have 3 minutes to complete this activity.

The first group to finish and get all the correct
answers will be declared the ‘Winner’, and will
receive a token after my discussion.

Are you ready to begin? Yes ma’am

The students will identify the domain and range,

and explain how they got the answer.
For Group 1: Group 1 expected answer:
X -2 -1 0 1 2 Domai Range
Y 6 3 0 -3 -6 n
( -2 , 6 )
( -1 , 3 )
( 0 , 0 )
( 1 , -3 )
( 2 , -6 )

For Group 2: Group 2 expected answer:

X -6 -3 0 3 6 Domai Range
Y 4 2 0 -2 -4 n
( -6 , 4 )
( -3 , 2 )
( 0 , 0 )
( 3 , -2 )
( 6 , -4 )

For Group 3:
X -4 -2 0 2 4
Y 2 1 0 1 2 Group 3 expected answer:
Domai Range
Very good class! An ordered pair is a representation n
of a point in the form of (x, y) or the domain and ( -4 , 2 )
range, and the coordinate of a point is represented ( -2 , 1 )
by an ordered pair (x, y). ( 0 , 0 )
( 2 , 1 )
( 4 , 2 )

C. EXPLORE
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
The graph of an equation in two variables is the set
of all points whose coordinates x and y (x,y) satisfy
the equation.

The most fundamental type of equation in two

variable is a linear equation.

What is a Linear equation?

A Linear Equation in two variables is an equation

that can be written in the standard form:
Ax + By = C, where x and y are variables, and A
and B are coefficients, and C is constant.

Now, let us identify whether the equation is a linear

or not.

Is 2x+3y=4 a linear equation?

Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
Is x-5y=1 a linear equation?
Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
Is -6x+y=-7 a linear equation?
Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
Is 3x2+2y=0 a linear equation?
Student’s expected answer: No ma’am
Is 5x+10y =4 a linear equation?
3

Student’s expected answer: No ma’am

Very good class!

D. EXPLAIN
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
NOTE: that the higher degree of the x and y
terms in the linear equation is 1.
Linear equations generate ‘straight line graphs’
when plotted on a standard Cartesian Coordinate
System. A postulate on geometry serves as
guiding principle in graphing linear equations.

Line postulate - two points determine a line.

Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
Did you understand what is a linear equation?

E. ELABORATE
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Let’s move on and proceed to Graphing Linear
Equation by Point-Plotting Using Slope
Intercept Form: y = mx + c (where m = slope
and c = y-intercept of the line)

The basic method of graphing an equation is by

point-plotting. The idea is to plot as many points
that satisfy the equation until a clear picture of the
graph is drawn.

Example 1: Graph y=3x-1

Solution:
Step 1: The linear equation must be written on a
Slope intercept form.

Is the given equation in example 1 written in a Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
slope intercept form?

Step 2: To find a point, assign a real number to

the independent variable, then solve for the
corresponding value of the dependent variable.

In example 1, what is the independent variable? Student’s expected answer: Independent variable
is x.
How about the dependent variable? Student’s expected answer: The dependent
variable is y.
For instance, when x=1, and y=3x-1, then
y=3(1)-1
y=3-1
y=2

Hence, (1, 2) is a point of the given equation.

Step 3: Generate as many points in the same

manner. Organize them in a table of values.
X -1 0 1 2 3
Y 2
Who can solve the other points using this Students will raise their hands.
equation?
Students’ expected answer:
(Call 4 students in the class) Student A:
y=3(-1)-1
y=-3-1
y=-4
Hence, (-1, -4)

Student B:
y=3(0)-1
y=0-1
y=-1
Hence, (0, -1)

Student C:
y=3(2)-1
y=6-1
y=5
Hence, (2, 5)

Student D:
y=3(3)-1
y=9-1
y=8
Hence, (3, 8)
X -1 0 1 2 3
Y -4 -1 2 5 8

Very good class! But we are not done yet, let’s

proceed to the last step.

Step 4: Plot the points to graph the equation.

Who can go to the board and pin the points? Students will raise their hands.
(Call 5 students in the class) Students expected answers:

Did you understand the lesson? Student’s expected answer: Yes ma’am
Anymore questions or clarifications? Student’s expected answer: None ma’am
F. EVALUATE
TEACHERS’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

y=10
(-2, 10)

y=-4(-1)+2
y=4+2
y=6
(-1, 6)

y=-4(0)+2
y=0+2
y=2
(0, 2)

y=-4(1)+2
y=-4+2
y=-2
(1, -2)

y=-4(2)+2
y=-8+2
y=-6
(2, -6)

x -2 -1 0 1 2
