What is it?

According to Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT),

Philippines is ripe for digital in governance, lifestyle, business and work. Indeed, we are in
the industrial revolution wherein ICT improves from time to time. From BPO companies,
online transactions, ICT in workplace and schools, in entertainment including some of the
vloggers and short-film makers, and businesses, there’s a big development in ICT compare
to past few years.

However, several key issues remain to receive attention from both the public and the
policymakers alike, creating lag on development on certain areas, DICT said.

The World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is an information system on the Internet that allows documents
to be connected to other documents by hypertext links, enabling the user to search for
information by moving from one document to another. It was invented by Tim-Berners Lee.
The World Wide Web browser software, such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer/Edge, Mozilla
Firefox, Opera, Apple's Safari, and Google Chrome, let users navigate from one web page to
another via the hyperlinks embedded in the documents.

The Current State of ICT

 Web 1.0 - the first stage of World Wide Web (WWW). At this stage, the web pages
were static, meaning you can read the text and look at the photos but the user could
not interact with it to obtain more information. The feedback mechanism was thru
private email and direct comment was not available.
 Web 2.0 - "read-write-execute" web. Web pages are now using web programs such
as PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl --- all dynamic programming languages. It is now easy
to share your photos, videos, stories, and opinions over the internet.
 Web 3.0 - a semantic web or data driven web content and response. As the user
interacts or responds, contributes and collaborates on the web. For example, if the
user searches for hotels in a particular city, the web posts adverts of hotels in that
city from services, like TripAdvisor.com, Booking.com, Agoda.com, and others.

6
Below is a comparison of Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0:

https://lcy0210.wordpress.com/2019/01/11/web-3-0-to-5-0-is-coming-soon/

Trends in ICT

1. Convergence
Technological convergence is an evolution of technological developments that merge
into a new system bringing together different types of applications and media. The
smartphone is an example of technological convergence as it provides functionality of
various individual separate and different devices now available in one gear.

The smartphone can function as a telephone, camera, radio, TV, and gaming
console.

2. Social Media
Social Media is a collection of internet-based communication tools and computer-
assisted channels dedicated to allow users to interact, communicate, and share information
in a virtual community and network.

7
3. Mobile Media
The popularity of smartphones and tablets has taken a major rise over the years.
This is largely because of the devices capability to do tasks that were originally found in
personal computers. Several of these devices are capable of using high-speed Internet.

4. Assistive Media
Assistive media is a nonprofit service designed to help people who have visual and
reading impairments. A database of audio recordings is used to read to the user.

Different Types of Online Platform

“If you can program it, then it’s a platform. If you can’t, then it’s not.” – Marc Andreessen

The online platform in the use of ICT makes it easier for users to interact, to collect,
and use the data from the user’s interactions for their own particular needs.

WEB SEARCH ENGINES

It is a software system designed to search for information on the World Wide Web
(WWW). The search results are generally presented in a line of results referred to as Search
Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

COMMUNICATION SERVICES

A Communications Service Provider (CSP) is a provider that transports information

electronically and can encompass public and private companies in telecom, internet, cable,
satellite, and managed services business.

8
PAYMENT SYSTEM

It is any system used to settle financial transactions through the transfer of monetary
value and includes the institutions, instruments, people, rules, procedures, standards, and
technologies.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social Media are forms of electronic communication (as

Websites for social networking and microblogging) through which
users create online communities to share information, ideas,
personal messages, and other content (as videos).

1. SOCIAL NETWORKING

What is the difference between social media and social networking?

These are forms of media. Essentially, social media is a platform for
broadcasting information, whereas social networking is a platform for
communicating with one another. Social media is a communication
channel, whereas, in social networking, communication has a two-way
nature. Even with the distinction being given, some nuances can be
pointed out. As an example of how they differ and yet somewhat overlap,
Facebook is a social networking site. You register and post your profile, connect with friends,
and comment on topics in a generally interactive way. On that same social networking site,
companies set up a presence and use Facebook as a way to promote their brand and gain
followers.

2. BOOKMARKING SITES

These are sites that allow you to store and manage links to various websites and
resources.

3. SOCIAL NEWS

These are sites that allow users to post their own news items or links to other news
sources.

4. MEDIA SHARING

These are sites that allow you to upload and share media content like images, music,
and video. Media sharing sites can be specific for video sharing, photo sharing, slide
sharing, social bookmarking, and gaming.

9
5. MICROBLOGGING

These are sites that focus on short updates from the user. Those subscribed to the
user will be able to receive these updates.

6. BLOGS AND FORUMS

These are websites that allow users to post their content. Other users can comment
on the said topic.

PLATFORM FOR ADVERTISING

Facebook

Facebook advertising is picking up speed in the business world. It uses social graph and
activities to pinpoint those who fall into your buyer demographics, making Facebook ads
incredibly useful. Facebook ads are more likely to bring in strong leads that are looking for
your services. They help make sure your advertising budget is 8 not wasted on those who are
not interested in what you are offering. Facebook makes your product or service put into the
hands of the exact person who wants it.

PLATFORM FOR HASHTAGGING

Twitter

Twitter is a fast-paced, concise, and easy way to connect with your audience. With over 310
million registered users (and growing), Twitter is a sea of information of 140 characters or less
content waiting to be read, clicked, followed, and re-tweeted. When marketing on Twitter, you
need to have content that is enticing to stop and click through. People are usually scrolling
quickly, to take more than just a simple text to stop them in their tracks. Make sure when you
are constructing your tweets, you are making people want to click through.

PLATFORM FOR GROUPING

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is different from the rest of the social media outlets because it is
specially designed for businesses and professionals. Users mainly go to
LinkedIn to showcase their job experience and professional thoughts, making
it one of the most important platforms to use for those in B2B. LinkedIn is a
valuable tool not only for driving traffic but prospecting, establishing thought
leadership, as well as recruiting.

CREATIVE CONTENT OUTLET

YouTube

YouTube is the leading video-sharing platform in the world. On your channel, your brand can
share and edit videos, create playlists, and prompt discussions.

Here are some of educational Youtube channels

10
 asapScience
 Veritasium
 Ted Ed
 Common Sense Education

PLATFORM FOR ANALYZING BUSINESS

Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the unique marketing platforms on this list. Instead of

posting content for your audience to read, on Pinterest, you will post just
a clickable picture and a short caption.

Following are some of the online platforms and applications that you can
use to create online presentation, web page, newsletter, infographics, music, video, and
other multimedia content:

Lesson
2 Online Safety, Security, Ethics, and
Etiquette
The internet is the guiding technology of the Information Technology Age just as the
electrical engine was of the Industrial Age. In these times, more and more people are already
engaged in the use of technology. These people who are raised in a digital, media-saturated
world are called digital natives. No doubt, the Internet has been very useful to us but with the
rise of instant messaging, chat rooms, emails and social networking sites, it can also bring
trouble - from cyberbullying to more serious Internet dangers, including exposure to sexual
predators. Thus, internet safety is always our primary concern.

What is it?

The Core Rules of Netiquette

Netiquette, or network etiquette, is concerned with the "proper" manner of
communication in the online environment. Whenever you communicate in the virtual world,
consider the following "rules," adapted from Virginia Shea's Core Rules of Netiquette. Below
are the 10 rules of netiquette:

Rule 1: Remember the Human

When communicating electronically, whether through email, instant message,
discussion post, text, or another method, practice the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you
would have others do unto you. Remember, your written words are read by real people, all
deserving of respectful communication. Before you press "send" or "submit," ask yourself,
"Would I be okay with this if someone else had written it?"

Rule 2: Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life
While it can be argued that standards of behavior may be different in the virtual world,
they certainly should not be lower. You should do your best to act within the laws and ethical
manners of society whenever you inhabit "cyberspace." Would you behave rudely to someone
face-to-face? On most occasions, no. Neither should you behave this way in the virtual world.

Rule 3: Know where you are in cyberspace

"Netiquette varies from domain to domain." (Shea, 1994) Depending on where you are
in the virtual world, the same written communication can be acceptable in one area, where it
might be considered inappropriate in another. What you text to a friend may not be appropriate
in an email to a classmate or colleague. Can you think of another example?

Rule 4: Respect other people's time and bandwidth

Electronic communication takes time: time to read and time in which to respond. Most
people today lead busy lives, just like you do, and don't have time to read or respond to
frivolous emails or discussion posts. As a virtual world communicator, it is your responsibility
to make sure that the time spent reading your words isn't wasted. Make your written
communication meaningful and to the point, without extraneous text or superfluous graphics
or attachments that may take forever to download.

21
Rule 5: Make yourself look good online
One of the virtual world's best things is the lack of judgment associated with your
physical appearance, the sound of your voice, or the clothes you wear (unless you post a
video of yourself singing Karaoke in a clown outfit.) The quality of your writing will judge you,
so keep the following tips in mind:
Always check for spelling and grammar errors Know what you're talking about and state it
clearly Be pleasant and polite

Rule 6: Share expert knowledge

The Internet offers its users many benefits; one is the ease in which information can
be shared or accessed, and in fact, this "information sharing" capability is one of the reasons
the Internet was founded. So in the spirit of the Internet's "founding fathers," share what you
know! When you post a question and receive intelligent answers, share the results with others.
Are you an expert at something? Post resources and references for your subject matter. You
have recently expanded your knowledge about a subject that might be of interest to others?
Share that as well.

Rule 7: Help keep flame wars under control

What is meant by "flaming" and "flame wars?" "Flaming is what people do when they
express a strongly held opinion without holding back any emotion." (Shea, 1994). As an
example, think of the kinds of passionate comments you might read on a sports blog. While
"flaming" is not necessarily forbidden in virtual communication, "flame wars," when two or
three people exchange angry posts between one another, must be controlled, or the
camaraderie of the group could be compromised. Don't feed the flames; extinguish them by
guiding the discussion back to a more productive direction.

Rule 8: Respect other people's privacy

Depending on what you are reading in the virtual world, be it an online class discussion
forum, Facebook page, or an email, you may be exposed to some private or personal
information that needs to be handled with care. Perhaps someone is sharing some medical
news about a loved one or discussing a situation at work. What do you think would happen if
this information "got into the wrong hands?" Embarrassment? Hurt feelings? Loss of a job?
Just as you expect others to respect your privacy, so should you respect the privacy of others.
Be sure to err on the side of caution when deciding to discuss or not to discuss virtual
communication.

22
Rule 9: Don't abuse your power
Like in face-to-face situations, there are people in cyberspace who have more "power"
than others. They have more expertise in technology or have years of experience in a
particular skill or subject matter. Maybe it is you who possesses all of this knowledge and
power! Just remember: knowing more than others do or having more power than others may
have does not give you the right to take advantage of anyone. Think of Rule 1: Remember the
human.

Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes

Not everyone has the same amount of experience working in the virtual world. And not
everyone knows the rules of Netiquette. At some point, you will see a stupid question, read an
unnecessarily long response, or encounter misspelled words; when this happens, practice
kindness and forgiveness as you would hope someone would do if you had committed the
same offense. If it's a minor "offense," you might want to let it slide. If you feel compelled to
respond to a mistake, do so in a private email rather than a public forum.

ONLINE SAFETY AND SECURITY

The Internet, truly, is a powerful tool. It can be used to promote your business, gain
new friends, and stay in touch with the old ones. It is also a source of entertainment. But like
most things in this world, there is always “another side of the coin.” The Internet is one of the
most dangerous places, especially if you do not know what you are doing.

23
Online safety refers to the practices and precautions that should be observed.
Different types of information should not publicly disclosed through the social media

Tips to Stay Safe Online

The Internet is a public place and it is up to you to protect yourself. Here are some tips
to help you stay safe when using the internet.

1. Be mindful of what you share online and what site you share it to.
2. Do not just accept terms and conditions; read it.
3. Know the security features of the social networking site you use. By keeping your
profile private, search engines will not be able to scan your profile.
4. Do not share your password with anyone.
5. Avoid logging in to public networks/Wi-Fi. Browsing in “incognito (or private) mode will
NOT protect you from hackers.
6. Do not talk to strangers whether online or face-to-face

24
7. Never post anything about a future vacation. It is similar to posting, “Rob my house at
this date.”
8. Add friends you know in real life.
9. Avoid visiting untrusted websites.
10. Install and update an antivirus software on your computer. Use only one anti-virus
software to avoid conflicts.
11. If you have Wi-Fi at home, make it private network by adding a password.
12. Avoid downloading anything from untrusted websites.
13. But the software, do not use pirated ones.
14. Do not reply or click links from suspicious emails.
15. Make Online Purchases from Secure Sites

Most people would dispute that there is no such thing as private over the Internet and they
may be right. Some hackers can find a backdoor even if your profile is already set to private.
You have no control whoever is looking at your friend's screen whenever they open your profile
or chat with you.

Kinds of Online Threats

There is no doubt that you need to be vigilant online. As the World Wide Web evolved
over the years, many internet predators have been playing on vulnerabilities to attack
computers and retrieve sensitive data from individuals. Half the time, we aren’t even aware it
is happening until it is too late.

Online threat is deemed any malicious act that attempts to gain access to a computer
network without authorization or permission from the owners. These are usually done by
computer hackers who uses the World Wide Web to facilitate cybercrime. Web threats use
multiple types of malware and fraud, all of which utilize HTTP or HTTPS protocols, but may
also employ other protocols and components, such as links in email or Instant Messaging
apps, or any malware attachments on servers that access the Web. They benefit
cybercriminals by stealing information for subsequent sale and help absorb infected PCs into
botnets. Web threats pose a broad range of risks, including financial damages, identity theft,
loss of confidential information/data, theft of network resources, damaged brand/personal
reputation, and erosion of consumer confidence in e-commerce and online banking.

The following are the top kinds of online threats that you should be aware of:

1. Phishing happens when an email is sent from an internet criminal disguised as an

email from a legitimate, trustworthy source. The message is meant to lure you into
revealing sensitive or confidential information.

25

2. Pharming happens when a hacker (or “pharmer”) directs an internet user to a fake
website instead of a legitimate one. These “spoofed” sites can capture a victim’s
confidential information, including usernames, passwords, and credit card data, or
install malware on their computer. Pharmers usually focus on websites in the financial
sector, including banks, online payment platforms, or other e-commerce destinations.

3. Internet Scam generally refers to someone using internet services or software to

defraud or take advantage of victims, typically for financial gain. Cybercriminals may
contact potential victims through personal or work email accounts, social networking
sites, dating apps, or other methods in attempts to obtain financial or other valuable
personal information. Online scams may come in various forms such as lottery scam,
charity fraud scams, job offer scams, and online dating scams to name a few.

26
4. Internet robots are also known as spiders, crawlers, and web bots. It is a software
application that is programmed to do certain tasks. Bots are automated, which means
they run according to their instructions without a human user. Some bots are useful,
such as search engine bots that index content for search or customer service bots that
help users. Other bots are "bad" and are programmed to break into user accounts,
scan the web for contact information for sending spam, or perform other malicious
activities. If it's connected to the Internet, a bot will have an associated IP address.

5. Malware or malicious software, is any program or file that is harmful to a computer

user. Here are the most common offenders in the rogues’ gallery of malware:

 Adware (advertising supported software) is unwanted software designed to

throw advertisements up on your screen. Example, pop-up ads and banner
ads.
 Spyware is malware that secretly observes the computer user’s activities
without permission and reports it to the software’s author. Example is a
keylogger.
 Virus and Worms are malwares that attach to another program and, when
executed—unintentionally by the user—replicates itself by modifying other
computer programs and infecting them with its own bits of code.
 Trojan, or Trojan horse, is one of the most dangerous malware types. It
usually represents itself as something useful in order to trick you. Once it’s on
your system, the attackers behind the Trojan gain unauthorized access to the
affected computer. From there, Trojans can be used to steal financial
information or install threats like viruses and ransomware.
 Ransomware is a form of malware that locks you out of your device and/or
encrypts your files, then forces you to pay a ransom to get them back.

6. Spams are unsolicited emails, instant messages coming from recipients that are not
granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Spam messages can be
damaging if you open or respond to it.

7. Cyberstalking refers to the use of the internet or other electronic device to harass or
stalk individuals or organizations.

27
8. Cyberbullying refers to the act of tormenting, harassing, or embarrassing another
person using the internet.

9. Spoofing happens when someone or something pretends to be something else to

gain our confidence, get access to our systems, steal data, steal money, or spread
malware.
Protecting Reputations Online
Here are the things you might want to consider before posting something over the
internet:
1. Before your post something on the web, ask these questions to yourself: Would
you want your parents or grandparents to see it? Would you want your future
boss to see it?
2. If you feel that a post can affect you or other’s reputation, ask the one who
posted it to pull it down or report it as inappropriate.

28
Copyright Infringement
It is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission for a usage where
such permission4 is required.
Here are some tips that could help you avoid copyright infringement:
1. Always assume that the work is copyrighted.
2. Do not copy, share or alter without seeking permission.
3. Review and retain licensing agreements.
4. Consider buying content.
5. Give credit to the original author of the page or information.

37
Lesson
3 Online Navigation

The manner of collectively searching for and saving requested information through the
computer from databanks that are online is known as Online Navigation. Years ago, the
traditional way of obtaining certain information is through books, which is very different from
the online search on the internet. Online navigation is an attempt to be more precise in
providing information based on a certain word.

What’s In?
Online navigation becomes a great match to the prevailing use and
popularity of the smart phone age. Search engines also provide a system of giving the best
and most appropriate results. Mobile phone application has been added to smart phones for
quick, handy researches and quicker school assignments. In this lesson, you are expected to
use the Internet as a tool to gather specific information and depending on a given situation

What’s New?
The following are different examples of search engine. Using the internet
or books search and describe the following application. Write your answer
on your notebook or in a piece of paper.

1. Google

2. Baidu

3. Bing

4. Yahoo!

38
What is it?
Search Engines
Search engines are software systems that are designed to search for information on
the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often
referred to as search engine results pages. Examples of Search Engines are Baidu, Bing,
Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and the most recognized engine Google. Google is the most known and
most used search engine in the world. According to Net Market Share, 74. 54 percent of the
Search Engine Market has been acquired by Google.

In this lesson, you are expected to online navigate and search for specific information
using the Google Search Engine.

Steps in Online Navigation

1. In your desktop, laptop or smartphones, open the browser and search Google and type
the word, phrase or thought you want to search.

2. On the right part of the window, click setting and the Google search settings pop-
up list will appear.

39
3. Type the keywords that you would like to search and click the Advanced Search button.
You can search through all the words that you’ve typed, or you can narrow it down to
specific words.

Research Skills
In order to achieve or access what you are looking for, you need to improve yourself.
As the old saying goes, “Practice Makes Perfect”. Good research is a product of multiple and
continuous searches, here are some skills you can improve or adapt to:

1. Critical Thinking – As you search through the web, you must think very carefully about
the information that you have gathered. Critical thinking involves the ability to reflect
on the information presented to you.

2. Data Organizing – A good researcher is able to organize his/her collected data. As

you collect those data, be sure to track where specific information is gathered.

3. Research Presenting – Part of your research is the actual writing, be creative and
reflective in writing your search, explain every detail and step into achieving your
objective.

Remember that not all searches are good ones, some are considered as satirical or
untrue. Here are some tips in identifying good searches from satirical searches.

1. If the contents of the source are too impossible to happen, or too good to be true,
then there must be something wrong.
2. If the site started as a false site for public figures such as TV personalities or political
figures, then uploaded stories from different sources, it is a satirical one.
3. If the site is unfamiliar and continuously popping ads, then it is satirical.

40
Examples of Satirical News

1. The 2 years in K-12 Curriculum for Senior High School has been removed.
2. President Duterte resigned as the leader of the Philippine nation.
3. You can win 1 million pesos just by answering a given survey form.
4. A certain actress/actor is alleged as pregnant being in another country for a long
time.

What’s More?

Activity 3.1 Concept Paper

Your friend told you that the earth will melt a few years from now. As a student who
knows how to navigate online, create a concept paper showing the validity or invalidity of
your friend’s statements.

In working with your concept paper, you may be guided by the sample content given.

Title usually in question form.

Brief overview of the research topic which includes information about the topic.
Research question that the project seeks to answer, with one or two sentences.
Discuss the importance of the research question and the importance of writing the
project.
A description of how the methods that the researcher plans to use to answer the
research question.

What I Have Learned?

1. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of relying and
applying online navigation in gathering specific information?
Advantages Disadvantages

41
2. The internet offers a great source of information; however, how are you
going to make sure that these pieces of information are reliable?

What I Can Do?

You have learned that the internet consists of a variety of information that can be
readily accessible through search engines. This is why, we do online navigation. But not all
information is relevant to your topic and not all information can be readily available. As a
learner, you now have the opportunity to gather specific details depending on the situation
presented to you. Yet, always be reminded that not all information is vital and not all
information is a good one. As the saying goes, “Think, before you Click!” .Being an individual,
you must use these search engines responsibly in order to achieve your objective.

Using your Social Media accounts, create a slogan or campaign regarding proper and
responsible use of internet. Use the tag, “#ThinkBeforeYouClick!”

Animation and Timing in PowerPoint

Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and the illusion of change
by means of the rapid succession of sequential images that minimally differ from each
other.

Microsoft PowerPoint provides several animation styles in different categories,

namely, Entrance, Emphasis, Exit and Motion Paths. Animations make your
presentation more dynamic. If you want to put animations in your presentation, all you
have to do is go to the Animations Tab and click Add Animations. From there, you
can find various animations types for entrance, emphasis, exit and motion paths.

Inserting Hyperlink
A hyperlink which is frequently stated as “links” is a text or image on the screen
that you can click on to jump to another file or within the existing file. When you hover
your pointer over a hyperlink, either it is text or an image, the arrow changes into a
small pointing hand, called hyperlink cursor. It is usually activated by clicking on the
text or image. Text hyperlinks are usually in color blue and underlined.

62
Hyperlinks in PowerPoint allow you to another slide in the current presentation,
another slide in a different presentation, another file or webpage, or email address.

Steps:
1. To insert a Hyperlink, click the word or the image then click the Insert tab and

Lesson 4.3 Advance Techniques in Excel

Advance and Complex Calculations in Excel

Complex formula is the combination of more than two simple formulas. One of the key features
of excel is the ability to calculate complex formulas. There are four basic computation uses in
excel. Namely addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division. When solving complex problems, Excel follows the
PEMDAS. PEMDAS is an acronym for the words:
parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition,
and subtraction.

Relative Reference

All cell references are called relative references.

When copied across multiple cells, they change based on the relative position
of rows and columns.

64
Absolute Reference

These are cell references that do not change when copied or filled.

You can use an absolute reference to keep a row and/or column constant.

These reference cells can be made constant by inserting $ sign in between or before
the row and column. Example:

$A$2 The column and the row do not change

when copied.
A$2 The row does not change when copied.
$A2 The column does not change when
copied.

Functions

These are predefined formula that performs calculations using specific values in a particular
order.

The parts of a function are: =SUM(A1:A20)

Equal sign Function Name Argument

Function Library

IF formula in Excel

The IF function can perform a logical test and return one value for a
TRUE result, and another for FALSE result. More than one condition can
be tested by nesting IF functions. The IF function can be combined with
logical functions like AND and OR.

Syntax: =IF(logical_test,[value_if_true],[value_if_false])

65
logical_test is a value or logical expression that can be evaluated
as TRUE or FALSE.
value_if_true (optional) is the value to return when
logical_test evaluates to TRUE.
value_if_false (optional) is the value to return when
logical_test evaluates to FALSE.

VLOOKUP

The VLOOKUP function performs a vertical lookup by searching for a

value in the first column of a table and returning the value in the same row in
the index_number position.
The VLOOKUP function is a built-in function in Excel that is categorized
as a Lookup/Reference Function. It can be used as a worksheet function in
Excel. As a worksheet function, the VLOOKUP function can be entered as part
of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

Syntax:

=VLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,col_index_num,[range_lookup])

66
Steps:

1. Identify a column of cells you'd

like to fill with new data. In this
case, that is column D entitled
MRR.

2. Select 'Function' (Fx) > VLOOKUP

and insert this formula into your
highlighted cell.

3. Enter the lookup value for

which you want to retrieve new
data. The first criteria is your lookup
value. This is the value of your
spreadsheet that has data
associated with it, which you want
Excel to find and return for you. To
enter it, click on the cell that carries a
value you're trying to find a match for.
In our example, shown above, it's in
cell A2. You'll start migrating your
new data into D2, since this cell
represents the MRR of the customer
name listed in A2.

67
4. Enter the table array of the spreadsheet
where your desired data is located. Next to
the "table array" field, enter the range of cells
you'd like to search and the sheet where these
cells are located, using the format shown in the
screenshot above. The entry above means the
data we're looking for is in a spreadsheet titled
"Pages" and can be found anywhere between
column B and column K.

5. Enter the column number of the data you

want Excel to return. Beneath the table array
field, you'll enter the "column index number" of
the table array you're searching through. For
example, if you're focusing on columns B
through K (notated "B:K" when entered in the
"table array" field), but the specific values you
want are in column K, you'll enter "10" in the

"Column index number" field, since column K

is the 10th column from the left.

6. Enter your range lookup to find an exact or

approximate match of your lookup value.

In the given example, which concerns monthly

revenue, you want to find exact matches from
the table you're searching through. To do this,
enter "FALSE" in the "range lookup" field. This
tells Excel you want to find only the exact
revenue associated with each sales contact.
However, if you want Excel to look for an
approximate match instead of an exact
match. To do so, simply enter TRUE instead of
FALSE in the fourth field shown above.

68
7. Click 'Done' (or 'Enter') and fill
your new column.

73
Read and understand all the 5 Gestalt Principles and then answer the question below. Write
your answer on a separate sheet of paper. What Gestalt Principle/s is applied to the image
below? Explain.

What is it?

Computer graphics are visual representations of data made on a computer and is

displayed on a computer screen or monitor. They can be a single image or series of images
called video. They can be anything on computers such as photographs, drawings or movies
that does not involve sound.

Layout is the arrangement of graphic elements on a page. An effective graphics and layout
contribute to the efficiency of website. Hence, you must begin learning the basic principles of
graphics and layout before creating your own graphic design which you can integrate on the
online environment.

Principles of Graphics and Layout

Across disciplines, the following principles are followed to standardized image creation and
manipulation using any graphics software. It will help you create layouts and design web
pages compliant with protocols.

1. Balance – It describes the placement of elements of equal weight on the page. The three
types of balance are symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.

74
2. Movement – It describes the flow of elements on the page. Visual elements guide the
viewers’ eyes around the page.

3. Unity – the sense of oneness of the elements that creates balance and harmony.

4. Repetition – It describes the consistent and balanced repetition of a design or element.

 An example is infographics that applied repetition to the design. It repeatedly used callouts
with identical font size of inside texts

5. Proximity – It describes the organization and relationship of the elements included in the
design.

75
6. Contrast – it is the combination of the opposing characteristics of an element like color,
size, thickness, and among others. It allows emphasis on key elements.

7. Emphasis - An area in the design that catches viewer’s attention. The area may appear
different in size, color, texture or shape.

Image File Formats

Since the introduction of graphics on the web., file formats also became an important aspect
in the design stage. The most common file formats are JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, and PNG.

1. JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the most popular image format used on
the web. JPEG are very ‘lossy’ files where much of the information about the image is lost
from original state to keep the image file size small. JPEG files are used mostly by
photographers, artists, graphic designers, medical imaging specialists, art historians, and
other groups because image quality and color fidelity is important in the field.

2. GIF – Graphics Interchange Format. It is limited to the 8-bit palette with only 256 colors.
GIF is best used for diagrams, cartoons, and logos which use few colors and is the chosen
format for animation effects.

3. PNG – Portable Network Graphic. This file format is best with line art, text, and logo. It is
capable to display transparencies.

76
4. TIFF – Tagged Image File Format. It is considered as a high-quality image format, where
all color and data information are stored. However, it produces a very large file size and take
huge disk consumption.

Principles and Basic Techniques of Image Manipulation

Whether you are using a free image manipulation program or purchased one, there are basic
techniques common to all image editing programs.

1. Cropping – It is a process of removing unwanted parts of the image, focusing only on the
subject. When cropping, one must always follow the Rule of Thirds to organize the image
composition.

2. Color Balance – In any image manipulating program, this command will allow you to make
changes in the mixture of colors in an image.

3. Adjusting Brightness and Contrast – This command is the most basic technique when
adjusting the image tone (highlights, shadows, and midtones).

4. Compression and Resizing – Compressing and Resizing an image is an important aspect

in image manipulation. Images to be uploaded on the web must be pf the standard resolution
of 72 dpi (dots per inch) to maintain its image file size of 30-50 KB. If the image is for printing,
set the maximum resolution to 300 dpi at set its physical printing size in inches.

5. Color Blending – Use the different special effects buttons available in the different image
editing software. You can combine colors and commands that will give you a more dynamic
image result.

6. Combining Multiple Images – Compositions must be planned and conceptualized first so

that you will be able to render the best image and message possible.

Lesson
6.2 Basic Web Page Creation

In the earlier years, or sometime in the 1990s, creating a web page or a website was
a skill that required a mind of a computer programmer, working on standard lines of computer
code that need to be memorized to produce a basically flat but colorful document.

Nowadays it is so much easier that a high school student with enough creativity could
assemble textual and visual parts that are already interactive and fun to the user. Moreover,
websites have evolved into tools and platforms for discovery, sharing, connection, and co-
creation.

What’s In?

ACTIVITY 1: Let’s Figure Out

Direction: Answer each question briefly. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper or
on your notebook.

Guide questions

1. Have you ever tried creating a web page?

2. Name a website you normally visit and what makes the site great?

3. What features do you want on that website?

4. Does the site contain high quality content?

5. Is the site well-designed?

Web Page Creation

While it's easy to build a web page, it's hard to make it look right. If all you want is plain
text, everything will be too straightforward. The tricky part is when you want something more.
Most bad web pages are bad because of their design rather than their contents. The more
stuff on the page, the messier it gets and the less likely you are to keep the interest of the
visitor (http://billconner.com/techie/webpages.html). An effective website design should fulfill
its intended function by conveying its message while simultaneously engaging the visitor.
Several factors such as consistency, colors, typography, imagery, simplicity and functionality
all contribute to good website design. A well-designed website can help build trust and guide
visitors to act. Creating a great user experience involves making sure your website design is
optimized for usability (form and aesthetics) and how it easy is it to use (functionality).

design/).

What is it?

Online Collaborative Tools

Online Collaborative Tools are tools that can help your group “go the distance” and
work as if you already have your own office. Working together does not necessarily mean you
have to be physically together. In Developing ICT project contents, there are many ways to
develop ICT contents, with your team can write the contents and design it.

Example of Online Tools Collaborative Tools

8. Facebook Groups
Allows you to create a group page that will allow people in you group to communicate
your ideas. Facebook groups also are spaces on the social media network for friends,
acquaintances, or people with similar interests to discuss or share about broad or
narrow topics. Groups provide an arena for organic discussion about your products or
services and present the opportunity to cultivate brand awareness.

9. WordPress
Allows you to multiple contributors for a single blog.

WordPress is, by far, the most popular open source Content Management System
(CMS), used by approximately 75 million websites.

WordPress is free to install, deploy, and upgrade. Thousands of plugins and

templates power a flexible and simple interface, which reduces development costs
and deployment time.

The team at Fresh Consulting has many years of accumulated knowledge and
resources to deploy high quality websites using WordPress. Here are a few reasons
why it’s our top choice for clients:

1. The most popular CMS in the world

WordPress holds the largest CMS market share by far, and currently
accounts for over a quarter of all websites. As a result, many users are
already familiar with the WordPress CMS, requiring less staff training when
building a new site.

130
Breakdown of websites with a clearly identifiable CMS, according to
W3Tech’s survey of the top 1 million domains.

2. Open Source with room for expansion

WordPress can be self-hosted, so there are no costs associated with

downloading, installing, and upgrading. There are more than 50,000
WordPress plugins (often free), such as slideshows, contact forms, SEO
optimization, etc.

For inspiration, check out 12 Plugins our Dev Team loves.

Fresh Consulting licenses the premium plugins we deploy on websites, such

as WordPress video manuals and easy website backup and restore functions,
at no additional cost to you.

3. Highly customizable for great flexibility

WordPress is popular because it meets the demands of many users with its
flexible framework, which allows designers and developers to create and
modify layouts and applications. Coupled with user-generated extensions,
websites are no longer limited by enterprise extensions.

Our team has experience extending WordPress functionality, as well as

incorporating a wide range of plugins, to meet our clients’ unique demands.

4. Designed for anyone, not just developers

Before WordPress became a popular CMS for website development, it was

developed for non-tech savvy bloggers. So, most of the user-interface
components are easy to use, and there are written and recorded manuals
available for easily learning how to use WordPress functions. Our team
handles all the complexities of setting up and customizing your website; all
you have to do is to update the content on pages, posts, widgets, etc.

One of the premium plugins we provide to our clients offers both written and
video user manuals for WordPress to facilitate on-boarding with the CMS.

5. Lower setup and maintenance costs

According to DeviousMedia, WordPress incurs fewer setup, customization,

and maintenance costs in comparison to other Open Source CMS like Drupal
and Joomla. Additionally, it is relatively easier to find WordPress designers
and developers if more customization or development is necessary in the
future. You don’t get locked down by a static website or proprietary CMS that
is costly to tweak after initial development.

131
10. G Suite
 Is a brand of cloud computing, productivity and collaboration tools, software
and product developed by Google. It comprises Gmail, Hangouts, Calendar
and Google+ for communication.

11. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
