LAB 01

LAB OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this lab are:

▪ To learn about the MULTISIM software
▪ To learn about different functions, components and tools that are present in the
MULTISIM
▪ To learn about interactive, DC sweep, and transient mode of analysis in the
MULTISIM
▪ To learn about the graphs and its different functions for the analysis of the graph

EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED

▪ Laptop/Computer with MUTLISIM installed.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

MULTISIM

Multisim is the schematic capture and simulation application of National Instruments Circuit
Design Suite, a suite of EDA (Electronics Design Automation) tools that assists you in
carrying out the major steps in the circuit design flow. Multisim is designed for schematic
entry, simulation, and feeding to downstage steps, such as PCB layout.

1. Standard Toolbar

BUTTON DESCRIPTION
With this button, we can create a new file from here. (ctrl+N)

From here, we can open a folder.(ctrl+O)

From here, we can open the sample files, if we have any.

From here, we can save our project file specifying the location where we
want it to save.(ctrl+S)
With this tool we can direct print if printer is connected to our device.

This tool is for the print preview, you can preview how your snip is gonna
print. We can specify the number of copies and page range. We can also set
the orientation like landscape or portrait.
This tool is used to cut the certain component, a part of the circuit or the
whole circuit.(ctrl+X)
This tool is used to copy the component, a part of the circuit or the whole
circuit.(ctrl+C)
This tool is used to paste the components which was either ‘cut’ or
‘copy’.(ctrl+V)
This tool is used to undo. This will remove the changing you have made
and will retain the previous state of your work.
This tool is used to redo. If you make the changings but mistakenly undo it
can, you can recover it via ‘redo’ tool.

OUTPUT

One of the more useful items is the pair of interactive cursors. The button for this is between the
Legend and the Magnify buttons. Selecting this will bring up a pair of vertical cursors which may
be grabbed and moved with the mouse. A separate cursor window will open. This will list the
coordinates of the cursors on the plot lines along with the differences between the points (that is,
how far apart the points are in time and in voltage). It will also list maxima and minima along
with other useful data.

CONCLUSION
In this lab, we performed some basic tasks to get familiar with the Multisim. We performed
different simulation techniques like Interactive, Transient, DC operating point.
LESSON, LEARNT AND STUDENT COMMENTS
In this lab, we learnt about the basics of Multisim. We learned about its environment with
their description and shortcut keys to use them. Then we discussed different types of
simulation and try them one by one. We learned about the probes functionality. At the end we
analyzed the effects of input harmonics. It was an important lab in a sense that it serves as the
basis for the rest of labs.
