INTRODUCTION
Animal adoption is the process whereby a person brings an animal, mostly cats and dogs, to their
own care. These animals that are either lost or abandoned are taken by the animal control to be
kept in animal shelters. Pets that are kept in the shelters for a long time are euthanized to reduce
the number of overpopulation of unwanted animals. The inspiration of this project is a web-
based adoption site for people to be more aware of stray animals waiting to be adopted around
Thailand. The website is accessible for users and administrators where users can register
themselves into the system to view the list of animals waiting to be adopted along with each
animal’s records such as their (estimated) age, gender, and their description. The administrators
are the main authority of the system and they are responsible for adding, editing, updating, and
deleting information if necessary.
Pet adoption is a heartwarming and compassionate way to welcome a new furry or feathered
friend into your home. It goes beyond simply acquiring a pet; it's about offering a loving and
secure environment to an animal that may have experienced neglect, abandonment, or
unfortunate circumstances. This act of kindness not only transforms the life of the pet but also
brings immeasurable joy and fulfilment to the adopter.
When you decide to adopt a pet, you're choosing to make a positive impact on the lives of
animals in need. Shelters and rescue organizations play a crucial role in this process, serving as
safe havens for animals that have been abandoned, surrendered, or rescued from various
situations. These organizations provide medical care, socialization, and rehabilitation, preparing
the animals for their new forever homes.
One of the most admirable aspects of pet adoption is the wide variety of animals available for
adoption. From playful puppies and kittens to mature dogs and cats, as well as rabbits, birds, and
even exotic pets, there's an incredible range of options to choose from. Each animal has its own
unique story, personality, and needs, ensuring that you can find a perfect companion that matches
your lifestyle and preferences.
Before embarking on the journey of pet adoption, it's essential to take thoughtful steps to ensure
a smooth transition for both you and your new pet. Research is key. Learning about different
breeds, species, and their characteristics will help you make an informed decision. Consider your
living situation, work schedule, and activity level to find a pet that fits well into your routine.
In conclusion, pet adoption is a beautiful journey of companionship, kindness, and
transformation. It's about opening your heart and home to an animal in need and experiencing the
countless rewards that come with it. Through adoption, you're not only gaining a loyal and
loving companion but also making a profound difference in the life of an animal that deserves a
second chance. So, if you're ready to embark on this fulfilling adventure, visit your local shelters
and rescue centre to find the perfect pet to welcome into your life.

3
OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT
The primary objective of a pet adoption project is to bridge the gap between animals in need and
loving forever homes. This noble endeavour focuses on addressing several important aspects of
animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, ultimately aiming to create a positive impact on
both the animals and the communities they become a part of.
One of the central goals of a pet adoption project is to raise awareness about the countless
animals residing in shelters and rescue organizations. These animals may have ended up in such
circumstances due to a variety of reasons, including abandonment, neglect, changes in family
situations, or even natural disasters. By shedding light on their stories and showcasing their
potential as loving companions, the project aims to change the narrative surrounding shelter
animals.
At the heart of the pet adoption project lies the intention to find suitable homes for animals that
are often overlooked. The project seeks to dispel misconceptions about shelter pets, highlighting
their adaptability, loyalty, and potential to bring immense joy to their adoptive families. By
facilitating connections between potential adopters and shelter animals, the project aims to match
animals with families that align with their needs, personalities, and living situations.
Beyond individual adoptions, the pet adoption project also works towards addressing larger
issues. It aims to contribute to the reduction of animal overpopulation by encouraging spaying
and neutering programs and promoting responsible breeding practices. This proactive approach
helps prevent the overcrowding of shelters and reduces the number of animals in need of homes.
Moreover, the project has a significant ethical dimension. It strives to lower euthanasia rates in
shelters by finding loving homes for animals that might otherwise face unfortunate fates due to
overcrowding or limited resources. Through adoption efforts, the project aims to provide second
chances to animals that deserve happiness and security.
Responsible pet ownership is another cornerstone of the pet adoption project's objectives. It
emphasizes educating adopters about the commitment and responsibilities that come with caring
for a pet. This includes providing proper nutrition, medical care, exercise, and a safe
environment. By fostering awareness about the long-term commitment required to ensure a pet's
well-being, the project aims to create lasting and fulfilling bonds between pets and their families.
In conclusion, a pet adoption project's objective is multi-faceted and impactful. It strives to find
loving homes for shelter animals, raise awareness about responsible pet ownership, address
issues of overpopulation and neglect, and improve the well-being of both animals and
communities. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, the project creates a
win-win situation by enriching the lives of pets and their adoptive families while contributing to
a more compassionate and caring society.

4
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The scope of a pet adoption project encompasses a wide range of activities and initiatives aimed
at connecting animals in shelters and rescues with suitable adoptive homes. This involves various
components, including awareness campaigns, education, matchmaking, and ongoing support, all
of which contribute to the overall success of the project.
Awareness Campaigns: The project's scope includes developing and implementing awareness
campaigns to highlight the importance of pet adoption. These campaigns might include social
media promotions, community events, and collaborations with local media outlets to reach a
broad audience and encourage individuals to consider adopting a pet.
Education and Outreach: Educating the public about the benefits of pet adoption and
responsible pet ownership is a crucial aspect of the project's scope. Workshops, seminars, and
informational materials can help potential adopters understand the commitment and
responsibilities associated with caring for a pet. Additionally, engaging with schools, community
centres, and online platforms can further spread awareness.
Shelter Partnerships: Collaborating with shelters and rescue organizations is a fundamental part
of the project's scope. Building strong relationships with these entities allows for effective
matchmaking between animals and potential adopters. Regular communication, on-site visits,
and participation in adoption events contribute to successful partnerships.
Animal Assessments and Matchmaking: Evaluating the personalities, needs, and health
conditions of animals in shelters is an integral aspect of the project's scope. This information
helps match pets with adopters who can provide appropriate care and a suitable living
environment. Developing a systematic approach for assessing animals and matching them with
potential families ensures successful adoptions.
Adoption Processes: Designing streamlined and efficient adoption processes is within the scope
of the project. This includes creating user-friendly application forms, conducting interviews with
potential adopters, and facilitating meet-and-greet sessions between adopters and animals. Clear
guidelines and transparent communication ensure a smooth adoption experience.
Post-Adoption Support: The project's scope extends beyond the initial adoption process.
Providing resources and support to new pet owners helps them navigate the challenges of pet
ownership.
In conclusion, the scope of a pet adoption project is comprehensive and multifaceted. It
encompasses activities that range from creating awareness and education to facilitating
adoptions, supporting adopters, and engaging with the community. By addressing various aspects
of pet adoption, the project aims to create a positive impact on animal welfare and promote
responsible pet ownership within the community.

LITERATURE REVIEW
In recent years, the concept of pet companion hubs has gained significant attention as centralized
platforms that offer a range of services aimed at enhancing the well-being of pets and supporting
pet owners. This literature review aims to explore various aspects of pet companion hubs,
focusing on vaccination services, pet adoption programs, and their broader impact on pets,
owners, and communities. The pace of people's lives has accelerated in recent years, and the
pressure has increased the number of abandoned pets. The increasing number of displaced
animals has had an impact not only on the animals of nature but also on the lives of humans.
Furthermore, stray animals have posed a significant hidden threat to the city's surrounding
environment, public transportation, and public health security. Animal rescue by humans is still
in its early stages. There are issues such as restrictions on rescue locations, the remoteness of
rescue locations, high investment demand, updates of relevant news, and publishing difficulties.
These circumstances, directly or indirectly, contribute to receiving more and fewer pets from
animal rescue facilities. This situation forces the rescue team to deal with numerous serious
issues, including the economy and the location. Second, you will realize that animal adoption has
a more natural and profound meaning after having a pet. To begin with, adopting animals raises
people's awareness of the need to care for animals, reducing the occurrence of the magical
behavior of unscrupulous pets, not to mention the horrible human beings who enjoy animal meat.
Adopting a pet can also help children develop an awareness of the importance of animal and
environmental protection.
Pet Vaccination Services:
Vaccination is a cornerstone of preventive healthcare for pets, safeguarding them against various
infectious diseases. Pet companion hubs often provide vaccination services as a part of their
offerings. These hubs contribute to increasing vaccination rates by providing accessible and
convenient locations for pet owners to ensure their pets receive timely immunizations.
Vaccination programs not only protect individual pets but also contribute to the overall reduction
of disease transmission within the pet population.
Pet Adoption Programs:
Pet companion hubs frequently collaborate with animal shelters and rescue organizations to
facilitate pet adoption programs. These programs serve as a bridge between homeless pets and
potential adopters, creating a mutually beneficial situation. By housing adoptable pets within
these hubs, potential owners have the opportunity to interact and connect with animals before
making an adoption decision. This approach often leads to more successful adoptions, as both
parties have a chance to assess compatibility and establish a bond.
Benefits of Pet Companion Hubs:
The introduction of pet companion hubs brings about several benefits for pets, owners, and
communities. By offering vaccination services, these hubs contribute to improved overall pet
health, reducing the risk of outbreaks of preventable diseases. Moreover, pet adoption programs
supported by these hubs provide a controlled environment for the introduction of pets to

6
prospective owners, ensuring responsible matches and reducing the number of animals in
shelters.
Challenges and Considerations:
While the concept of pet companion hubs holds immense promise, there are challenges that need
to be addressed. Providing comprehensive veterinary care, including vaccinations, requires
trained personnel and adherence to medical protocols. Ensuring that pets are placed in suitable
homes during adoption programs demands thorough assessment procedures and post-adoption
follow-up. Balancing these operational challenges while maintaining ethical standards is
essential for the success of pet companion hubs.
Community Engagement:
Pet companion hubs have the potential to become community hubs that promote awareness and
education about responsible pet ownership. These hubs can organize workshops, seminars, and
awareness campaigns to educate pet owners about the importance of vaccinations, training, and
proper care. Community engagement initiatives foster a sense of responsibility within the
community and contribute to the overall welfare of pets.
Changing Human Perceptions of Non-human Animals

Human-animal studies ha ve focused on the discontinuity of both humans and non-human

animals in society, where discourse has shifted to concentrate on animals as mutually beneficial
components for both human and non-human societies Contemporary human-animal studies are
most broadly understood as the examination of interactions among human and non-human
animals, emphasizing the expression of non-human agency In her seminal book, “Animals in
Society: An Introduction to Human-Animal Studies,” DeMello considers the conceptual
construct of non-human animals within the Euro-American cultural Context and the ways it
reinforces and perpetuates hierarchical human relationships. Govindrajan utilizes a multispecies
ethnographic framework to deconstruct the entanglement of various theoretical concepts (e.g.,
interspecies relatedness), suggesting that non-human animals have a profound influence on
shaping the relationship with human societies through agency, intention, and emotional capacity.
Applied ethology explores animal behaviour and welfare of domesticated animals including
companion animals . Findings center on positive and negative ramifications of human influences,
with a strong argument against such concepts as behaviourism and operant conditioning due to
their stresses on anthropomorphic hierarchical assumptions that neglect to view non-human
animals as agents that co-create mutually beneficial relationships .However, in their study of
wildlife-human perspectives in modernized countries, Manfredo et al. contend that
anthropomorphizing non-human animals, or seeing non-human animals as more human-like, has
contributed to pro-non-human animal societal shifts due to power-based domination perspectives
giving way to mutualism orientations, “Individuals with strong mutualism orientations would
consider wildlife as part of their broader social community, deserving of rights and caring
treatment” .

Profiling, Animal Shelter Workers, and Caregiver Burnout

7
In an attempt to better understand adoption and euthanasia rates, multiple studies examined the
potential variables causing certain dogs and cats to be adopted over others. Hill and Murphy
employed linear regression models to determine that “dog size, personality, behavior, and level
of obedience training” contributed to individual adoption success. A similar study focusing on
the length of stay at two “no-kill” animal shelters in New York, showed a direct correlation
between the age of the animal and time spent at the facility, where positive outcomes are more
likely for puppies than other animals .Leonard conducted an ethnographic study at the
Washington Humane Society on the cultural bias toward animals based on color associations and
literary traditions in Western cultures. She explicitly described the role of “Big Black Dog
Syndrome” (BBDS) where large black dogs of all breeds have a difficult time being adopted and
are typically the most likely to be euthanized. However, Sinski et al. tested BBDS for its efficacy
and found that support for BBDS was mostly anecdotal or theoretical data from their study did
not support BBDS theory but some shelters still implement strategies such as “applying brightly-
colored collars, bows, or bandannas to dark-coated animals” which may suggest positive upticks
in adoption rates by making dogs appear more attractive to humans. Euthanasia affects animal
shelter employees and volunteers, leading to burnout and turnover that further increases the costs
associated with animal rescue efforts. Anderson et al.surveyed shelter managers across the U.S.
where an average of 869 dogs and cats per shelter were euthanized each year. Shelter managers
cited emotions of sadness, crying, anger, and depression, which contributed to a 74% employee
burnout rate, and 24% turnover rate. “These findings confirm that performing
