ABSTRACT
Library management system is a project which aims in developing a computerized system to maintain all the daily
work of library .This project has many features which are generally not available in normal library management
systems like facility of user login and a facility of teachers login .It also has a facility of admin login through which
the admin can monitor the whole system . It has also a facility where student after logging in their accounts can see
list of books issued and its issue date and return date and also the students can request the librarian to add new
books by filling the book request form. The logging into his account i.e. admin account can generate various
reports such as student report , issue report, teacher report and book report
Overall this project of ours is being developed in netbeans software to help the students as well as staff of library to
maintain the library in the best way possible and also reduce the human efforts.

1.INTRODUCTION
1.1 Overview
With the rapid development of computer technology, the application of computer technology in all walks of life has
been widely popular. The development of modern information technology has led to the progress of the library in
the direction of automation, network and digitization. Due to the increase in the collection of library books and the
increasing demand for information, the traditional manual management methods have many shortcomings, the main
performance is that the efficiency of handling of borrowing books and returning books process is very low,
obviously it cannot adapt to the current information society. The library business has been impacted greatly, forcing
people to intensify to open the new information management methods to manage the pace of books in order to
improve efficiency, reduce staff work pressure and reduce the probability of error, but also allows readers to have
more time to choose books and read books. Book management system is a typical information management system,
how to use the existing scientific and technological conditions to improve the management efficiency of books is our
urgent problem to be considered and solved. This paper combined the basic requirements of modern library
management system, discussed the specific process of system development in detail, including feasibility analysis,
demand analysis, system design, DB design and coding test and other links. It basically meets the requirements of
the daily management of small libraries, to achieve the desired design goals. The “Library Management System” has
been developing to override the problems prevailing in the practicing manual system. This software is support to
eliminate and in some cases reduce the hardships faced by this existing system. Moreover this system is designed for
the particular need of the company to carry out operations in a smooth and effective manner. Library Management
System is an application which refers to library systems which are generally small or medium in size. It is used by
librarian to manage the library record various transactions like issue of books, return of books, addition of new
books, addition of new students etc. Books and student maintenance modules are also included in this system which
would keep track of the students using the library and also a detailed description about the books a library
contains. In addition, report module is also included in Library Management System. If user’s position is admin, the
user is able to generate different kinds of reports like lists of students registered, list of books, issue and return
reports. All these modules are able to help librarian to manage the library.
Library Management System is an application which refers to library systems which are generally small or medium
in size. It is used by librarian to manage the library using a computerized system where he/she can record various
transactions like issue of books, return of books, addition of new books, addition of new students etc. Books and
student maintenance modules are also included in this system which would keep track of the students using the
library and also a detailed description about the books a library contains. With this computerized system there will
be no loss of book record or member record which generally happens when a non computerized system is used.
In addition, report module is also included in Library Management System. If user’s position is
Admin, the user is able to generate different kinds of reports like lists of students registered, list of books, issue and
return reports. All these modules are able to help librarian to manage the library with more convenience and in a
more efficient way as compared to library systems which are not computerized.
1.3 Objectives
The objective of the Library Management System is to handle the entire activity of a library. The software keeps
track of all the information about the books and their complete details.
The system contains database where all the information will be store safely. It will be much easier to find particular
record rather than opening such huge files and finding a single record from them.
The data will be much secure from any unauthorized access. It will be made secure by using passwords and by
taking other security measures.
Records will be easily edited and the database will easily be updated at the time of entering a record. There will be
no duplication of the data as the computerized will be used.
To make the system user friendly. The system will be much more easy to use and the operator will feel no difficulty.
Library management can contain entities like categories of book, authors, year of publication etc.
To make it easy to search any record. Student login page where student can find books issued by him/her and date of
return.
The main objective of the application is to automate the existing system of manually maintain the records of the
book issue, book return from the student, stock maintenance, catalog and book search to be computerized. So the
book issue, return, searching will be faster.
1.4 Summary
Overall, the introduction covered the concept of embedded web server system. Previously developed embedded web
server system that is based on ARM and Linux operating system controls only wired devices. To overcome the
problems the system is designed. The project required TCP/IP protocol stack which is inbuilt in ARM processor and
Analog to Digital Converter which is inbuilt in Atmega (AVR). The Atmega microcontroller is used to convert the
analog values to digital values as well as for wireless communication. The analog data read by the sensor first
converted into the digital data and then send to the server, after that based on received data server will take the
decision about the remote devices.
One of the first things to note when performing a literature review on LMS is that there are no independent literature
reviews solely on this area. Instead, LMS has now become an integral part of standard literature reviews for
acquisitions processing, collection development and management, cataloging and classification, and serials
management. At the same time, there are areas of LMS that sit outside of these traditional functioning areas in
libraries. This makes performing a literature review on LMS more of a challenge. From the field of library
acquisitions, the issues most readily identified in recent years have been the switch from print processing to LMS
and the continued struggle to find management tools that work within the local library context.
For further understanding of the study, the researches made use of different reading materials related to the OLMS.
These materials such as books, magazines and other web articles are essential in broadening their knowledge of thee
researches. These will also guide the researches to achieve their target objectives by getting ideas on other related
studies and make improvement as possible.
The information gathered by the researches focuses on the development of e-commerce or online marketing and its
advantages to the economy, consumers and businesses. Security measurement information in terms of payment and
customer’s privacy to be considered in developing an online system are also obtained.
The researchers also sum up the different techniques on how to gain web visitors and eventually convince them to
purchase the products based on some surveys gathered by the past studies. Some of the programming background
skills needed to create a website is also being discussed to further understand why the researches chose PHP5 as
front end an MYSQL as backend of the proposed system.
Project is related to library management which provides reading services to its members. Any student and staff can
become a member of the library by filling a prescribed form. They can get the book issued, so that they can take
home and return them.
3.METHODOLOGY
Software development methodology engineering is a framework that is used to structure, plan, and control the
process of developing an information system. A software development process also known as software development
life-cycle (SDLC), is a structure imposed on the development of a software product. The main idea of the SDLC has
been to pursue the development of information systems in a very deliberate, structured and methodical way,
requiring each stage of the life cycle form inception of the idea to delivery of the final system, to be carried out
rigidly and sequentially within the context of the framework being applied. As a noun, a software development
methodology is a framework that is used to structure, plan, and control the process of developing an information
system. This includes pre-definition of specific deliverables and artifacts that are created and completed by a project
them to develop or maintain an application In OLMS we have used iterative model. In iterative model we do not
need to start with a full requirement. We can make changes time by time where problem comes in software. Unlike
waterfall, process can be repeated time to time in iterative model. The following is the diagram of iterative model. In
iterative model we are building and improving product step by step. The advantages is that we caught the defects in
early stages in iterative model we spend more time on software coding and less time for documentation. The
Purpose of the Library Management system is to allow for storing details of a large number of books, magazines,
Journals, thesis and allow for add, search, borrow, return facilities separately to administrator/ Librarian, staff and
student.
User friendly interface
Fast access to database
Search facility
All the manual difficulties are managing the library have been rectify by implementing computerization.
Manage the complete management of the entire library through the software’s easy interface. It removes manual
process of issuing books by easy and simplified way of issuing book saving time and effort. The librarian can issue,
return and reserve book for a particular student through the software’s interface. The software automatically shows
fine levied by automatically counting days from the date if issue in case of return of the book. Students can also
check the availability status of a particular book online.
5. Conclusion
From a proper analysis of positive points and constraints on the component, it can be safely concluded that the
product is a highly efficient GUI based component. This application is working properly and meeting to all user
requirements. This component can be easily plugged in many other systems. In this application we can entry a new
book which has a specific id, price, pages, book name and publisher. We also add a student’s information such as
name, id, , batch, semester which is help admin when a student issue a book & return a book. If admin wants to see
the details information of returning or issuing a book with date, he needs to click just a button on our application.
Hence, we have completed our project without any problems. We have done various researches for this project and
this system is designed using HTML and C# in the front end and SQL Server in the back-end DB.
We have used CRUD Functions in it, just which is regularly used in the library. This system helps in the collage and
local libraries where works makes easy for librarian and users. This has been developed by considering all the needs
given in the project and by through interaction with the users of the system.
