i-iNTRODUCTiON
Cybercrime is a broad concept that includes "all criminal offenses
likely to be committed on or by means of a computer system generally
connected to a network. »
It is there fore a new form of crime and delinquency that differs from traditional forms in
that it is located in a virtual space, the "cyberspace". Since a few years the democratization
of access to information technology and the globalization of networks have been factors in
the development of the cybercrime. There is no precise and universal definition of the term
(Cybercrime). In general terms ; this is a crime that is committed using a computer network
or the internet.
ii-whO aRe CybeRCRimiNals

Web criminals often act in groups and are located in countries where the laws related to
cybersecurity are not very strict. These are obviously people who have a maximum of
computer knowledge regarding the use of the Internet and its flaws. However, this does not
prevent these malicious individuals from going it alone. Cybercriminals can also work for a
specific organization or for the government of a country.
iii-CaUses OF CybeRCRime
Some are turning to cybercrime by :
• Challenge when others act out of greed
• the search for power
• the search for the easy win
• Out of desire to harm
• the practice of espionage for a development
• revenge following a disappointment in love

• Exposure to blackmail
• financial damage
• loss of trust
• Fraud
• Dedradation of the website
• Desactivate the economy of a city or an entire
country

v-ObJeCTive OF CybeRCRime
What is the purpose of a cyber attack or a hack? The objectives of cyber attacks vary
depending on the motivations of the attackers. Their purpose may be to steal sensitive
information, disrupt business operations, destroy data or illegally monitor. we can see for
example : Phishing, is a very common malicious technique online. The objective: to carry out
identity theft in order to obtain personal information and bank identifiers for criminal use.

The Budapest convention defines the following types of cybercrime :
• Computer fraud
• Software piracy
• Cryptojacking
• Illegal interception
• Illegal access to a computer system
• Misuse of device

Adapte your defense systems according to the attacks :
• On a daily basis ; define good safety pratices
• Use a secure password
• Inform staff about the risks associated with cybercrime.
• Install security solutions
• Using a VPN

The phenomenon of cybercrime therefore encompasses all crimes on the internet, it is a


very organized mechanism, around networks linked to each other. This new form of crime is
becoming more and more widespread in parallel with the development of New Information
Technologies and economic developments related to globalization.
Thus, to fight against these crimes, there are various means of protection, from antivirus
to security reinforcement on websites, including firewalls and intrusion prevention in order
to protect personal computers as well as government computer systems.
In addition, many organizations on a national scale have been born in order to stem the
phenomenon, thus, the latter have put in place various texts of laws and sanctions planned
to punish cybercriminals.
