Body Mechanics Checklist

2. Enlarges base of support as necessary to increase


body’s stability.
3. Lowers center of gravity to ward base of support as
necessary to increase body’s stability
4. Enlarges base of support in direction in which force
is to be applied.
5. Tightens abdominal and gluteal muscles in
preparation for all activities.
6. Faces in direction of task and turn body in one
plane.

7. Bends hips and knees (rather than back) when


lifting.

8. Moves objects on level surface when possible.

9. Slides (rather than lift) objects on smooth surface


when possible.
10. Holds objects close to body and stand close to
objects to be moved.
11. Uses body’s weight to assist in lifting or moving
when possible.
12. Uses smooth motions and reasonable speed when
carrying out tasks.
