INTRODUCTION
Good afternoon, everyone and welcome to my presentation. First of all, it’s my great
honor to have you guys here. So let me start by saying a few words about myself, my name
is Thuy Linh, I’m a part of the English for presentation class.
In order to heat up my presentation, I have here a question for you guys, “Have
you spent more than 3 hours per day using the Internet?”.
→ Well, I believe that most people here have the same answer that each of us waste
about 3-7 hours per day to wallow in social media, entertain or just for work… But, that’s
not a weird number as research shows that in the third quarter of 2022, the average time
spent on the internet was 397 minutes per person per day. (six hours and 37 minutes)
So, what I would like to present today is The Advantages of Using the Internet which
is one of the closest activities in our daily life. Therefore, my talk is relevant and necessary
to those of us who are interested in the Influence of the Internet and in the process of
changing behavior usage.
Today, I will divide my presentation into 3 parts. The first one, I will show you the
Situation of using the Internet in Vietnam and several countries around the world. Next, I
will move on to the main part with the Advantages to see how the Internet affects our life in
positive aspects. As the internet is like a double-edged sword, I will give you the conclusion
with some advice to minimize the problem. And don't worry if you can't follow, I will give
you the handout later. Additionally, if you have any questions, please tell me at the end of
my presentation, I will manage to give you the best answer.
II. SITUATION
So do you wonder, in 1 minute, how much data was created on the internet? Well,
according to the site AllAccess, 60 seconds on the web in 2021 consist of more than 500
hours of content uploaded on YouTube, nearly 700,000 stories shared on Instagram and 70
million messages sent via WhatsApp and Messenger. It's an enormous number, which
shows us how important the Internet is all around the world.
As you can see, the given bar chart illustrates the proportion of people using the
Internet in 3 specific countries in January 2023. Overall, the most noticeable features are
that both Vietnam and the United States had the number of Internet users reaching over
75%. By contrast, the figure for India made up the lowest part of all countries with just
under 50%. In particular, Vietnam is among the countries with the most internet users,
approximately two-thirds. Using the internet has become a daily habit among many
Vietnamese, with multiple purposes: work, study, entertainment.
III. ADVANTAGES
As I said in the Introduction, The internet is probably one of the greatest inventions.
The accessibility of the Internet has opened the world by stripping away geographical
barriers and sharing information immediately. So in this part, I will show you the benefits of
Using the Internet.
To begin with, the Internet is an instant access to almost all information in just about
seconds. You can simply type keywords, and the search engine will find you millions of
results based on the time period, user rating. This makes you easily find relevant and
up-to-date information on the internet.
Another benefit of the internet is communication, which can make people keep in
touch easier than ever before. Through platforms like SKYPE, ZOOM, Teams, you can
communicate with anyone remotely without wired systems or physical presence. Within
less than seconds, you can get connected with a person sitting thousands of miles away
from you. This ensures that you do not lose touch due to increased distance.
Through the internet, you can learn about anything at any time. There are so many
platforms that provide online education to help students gain knowledge in various
domains, including research papers, online courses, and case studies. For example, you can
learn to be a software engineer without going to school but simply through the internet.
Let's move on to the benefits of using the Internet in online services and E
-commerce. With the evolution of internet technology, E-commerce enables one to shop for
things in Asia, Africa, or any other areas of the world through clicks. Besides, lots of
information about services and products are public, which is helpful to read reviews.
Unlike ten years ago, now you can file your tax, book a flight or even shop online.
Nevertheless, sites like PayPal, online banking, and several online payment methods have
made the transfer of money easier and faster with their fingertips.
Finally, the other popular reason why people use the internet is entertainment. The
internet provides you with all types of entertainment: play or download games, surf
YouTube or celebrity websites, catch up on the latest Netflix series. And I believe, the ease
of the Internet also helps the entertainment industry in many ways.
IV. CONCLUSION
However, this same tool still has negative impacts such as sharing offensive content or
sending hateful messages anonymously. It is important to be aware of the potential dangers
that are associated with online usage. When you know the risks, you can take steps to
protect yourself and minimize the risks of going online. That’s what we’ve got for you: the
advantages of using the internet. I’m now nearing the end of my talk. I’d like to run through
the main points again. First I showed you the Internet usage situation of some countries.
Then we pointed out the benefits of Using the Internet. Finally, we would like to suggest
some advice to reduce the risk of using the Internet. So, now you got all the points. Thank
