The listing of ASTINO BERHAD on Bursa Malaysia Securities

Berhad in the year 2003 has further strengthened the
foundation of Group and set the path to achieve further
corporate growth and expansion.

Under the brand name of ASTINO@, the Company has

established itself as one of the leading industrial enterprise
in the field of building products with three major
manufacturing plants located at strategic locations in
Peninsular Malaysia. The Group has weathered the
economy storm successfully and continues to record
impressive profit achievement and capital growth. The
average turnover growth of the Group was about 15%. With
expansion plans to be gradually implemented in coming,
years, the Group's turnover and profitability are expected
to further enhance.

The successes of ASTINO BERHAD were built on the

company's commitment to strive for continuous
improvement of quality product and excellence in services.
The Group is innovative and focuses in its drives to be
corporation of distinction for the sustained well-being of its
custom6rs, shareholders and employees.
stino produces a range of galvanized C &
Z-Purlins and girts for building construction
applications. Manufactured from quality
galvanized steel, are available either plain or
with textured surfaces on the web. Pre-punched
holes either round or elongated on the webs are
custom drilled according to requirements. All
galvanized purlins are manufactured from hight
tensile steel for increased performance and
efficiency, reduced weight and durability.

Astino Z-Purlins are designed with one broad

flange and one narrow flange. These are
designed to fit neatly for lapping at internal
supports. This produces structurally continuous
lines of purlins for the length of the building with
improved rigidity.

Anolysis & Design Principles
The limit state capacity tables are compiled based
on the following assumptions:

. Purlins bend about the axis perpendicular to the

web.
. At laps, the purlins are continuous. In the finite
element fl exural-torisnal buckling analysis,
lapped regions are modeled by adding the
section properties of the two sections.
. The bridging to provide a lateral
is assumed
torsional restraint and a lateral translational
restraint at the points of attachment to the
purlins.
. The roof sheeting which is screw-fastened to
the top flange of the purlins is assumed to
provide a continuous diaphragm shear restraint
against minor axis rotation

D EF LECTION
There are no specific rules governing permissible
deflections or the load types which should be
considered in calculations. You need to consider
the specific application conditions of the purlins
to decide on an acceptable deflection limit. The
structured codes leave the choice of deflections
to deSign engineers who give consideration to the
nature of a building and its specific application
conditions consequently, for loads less than th,e
safe load limit, alternative deflection ratios may

be stored of the ground on a slightly sloped position.

DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING

. Upon delivery; exercise care in unloading, stacking,
moving, storing and erectingrto prevent twisting,
bending, scratching or denting.
. Store it in a safe, dry environrnent under a water
proof covering.
. Allow adequate ventilation to prevent
condensation.

BRIDGING
The capacity tables provide design loads for an
equal number of rows of bridging in each span.
The number of rows of bridging can vary from 0
to 3.

It is recommended that at least one row of

bridging is used in each span ; unbridged lengths
be limited to 20 times the section depth.

Lopping
Structural continuity of the lapped purlins at
support is achieved by having one bolt through
the flanges furthest from the cladding and one
bolt through the webs near the flanges connected
to the cladding at each end of the lap.
The lapping arrangement is as shown in the
following diagram.
The lap length is the distance between the centre
of bolts at the end of the laps. The required lap
length for different section sizes and span lengths
is shown in the table below. The minimum lap Cleof
length shbll be 7O% of the span length.
The capacity tables are prepared dssuming cleq
