Anolysis & Design Principles
The limit state capacity tables are compiled based
on the following assumptions:
D EF LECTION
There are no specific rules governing permissible
deflections or the load types which should be
considered in calculations. You need to consider
the specific application conditions of the purlins
to decide on an acceptable deflection limit. The
structured codes leave the choice of deflections
to deSign engineers who give consideration to the
nature of a building and its specific application
conditions consequently, for loads less than th,e
safe load limit, alternative deflection ratios may

Contact between galvanized steel and incompatible

materials (e.g,Copper tube) must be avoided as
piremature corrosion could happen. purlins should
be stored of the ground on a slightly sloped position.
Lopping
Structural continuity of the lapped purlins at
support is achieved by having one bolt through
the flanges furthest from the cladding and one
bolt through the webs near the flanges connected
to the cladding at each end of the lap.
The lapping arrangement is as shown in the
following diagram.
The lap length is the distance between the centre
of bolts at the end of the laps. The required lap
length for different section sizes and span lengths
is shown in the table below. The minimum lap Cleof
length shbll be 7O% of the span length.
