Designing a HomeWorks System

Designing a HomeWorks system with QSX processors is very similar to designing a system with QS
processors. The general system layout is identical, and so your knowledge and experience will translate
to designing QSX systems. The following are exceptions and special considerations.

System Design Rules

1. Processor/Gateway Rules
There is a limit of 16 total, combined QSX processors and Clear Connect Gateways. Each system
must contain at least one QSX processor. It is not possible to have Clear Connect Gateways
without at least one QSX processor.

2. Powering Clear Connect Gateways

The Clear Connect Gateway must be powered by an IEEE 802.3af-2003 or 802.3at-2009
compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) supply (either a switch or injector).

3. Mounting QSX Processors

QSX processors are DIN rail mounted, but ship with a small piece of DIN that aligns exactly with
the mounting holes of QS (HQP6) processors. This means that all mounting options that worked
for QS processors will also work for QSX processors.

4. QSX Processor Power and Wiring

The power and wiring options for the QSX processor exactly match the QS processor, so all
power supplies that work for the QS processor will work for the QSX processor. The QSX
processor has two Ethernet connections and 2 configurable links. The links can be configured as
either QS or QS wireless (Clear Connect – Type A).

5. QS and QS Wireless Link Design

All design rules pertaining the QS and QS wireless links are the same on QSX processors as they
were on QS processors. Links are limited to 100 devices (including the processor). QS links
support 512 zones, QS wireless links support 100 zones.

6. Networking Guidelines
The HomeWorks system requires a multicast group that allows QSX processors and Clear
Connect Gateways sharing a unique and common class D address. This permits the processors
and gateways to share events. For a more detailed understanding, please consult the
comprehensive ‘HomeWorks Networking Guide for QSX Processors and Clear Connect
Gateways’ in the Application Notes section of lutron.com.

Feature Limitations – HomeWorks QSX vs HomeWorks QS

The features below are not currently present in the QSX system as of HomeWorks Designer and Lutron
App version 21.6. The features are listed below, along with any workaround. It is important to note
that, thanks to the ability to push firmware to the QSX processor through the cloud, features missing at
launch can be added later and show up seamlessly for the end user.

1. App Control of HVAC (Coming Q1 2022)

Lutron HVAC systems are not currently able to be controllable through the app. This feature can
be automatically deployed to systems through the cloud once development is complete.

2. Third-party control of HVAC over LEAP (Coming Q1 2022)

The LEAP API specification has been completed and the documentation shared with alliances.
These companies are now working to plan in the development work for support of HVAC zone
control and monitoring. It is expected that the 21.7 version of Lutron Designer will be required
for the LEAP information to be made available to the third-party system.

3. Geofencing
Geofencing is not yet supported by HomeWorks systems. This feature can be automatically
deployed to systems through the cloud once development is complete.

4. Control of individual G2s from an N3

It is not yet be possible to set independent colors on individual segments of G2 or different G2s
connected to a given N3. All segments of all G2s connected to an N3 will be the same color. If
separate colors are required, additional N3s can be added to break up the segments.

5. RPM and Other Legacy Links

The RPM (panel) link and other HomeWorks Illumination legacy links are not currently
supported by QSX. For systems that are looking to migrate to DIN Rail, from RPMs, we offer a
subplate that allows DIN modules to be mounted into 8-up RPM panels. The spec sheet for the
subplate can be accessed here. For projects where it is desired to keep the existing RPMs, it is
currently recommended to upgrade to QS.

6. Battery status reporting

Battery status reporting is not yet supported by HomeWorks systems. This feature can be
automatically deployed to systems through the cloud once development is complete.

7. Ketra Curated Content

Not all Ketra Curated Content is currently available.
• Available:
o Favorite custom colors and settings for Ketra can be exported from one project
and imported to the next.
o Natural Show
o Default Warm-dim Profile
• Not Available:
o Default scenes
o Prebuilt Color List
o Configurable Warm-dim Profiles

8. Light Sensor Historical Data Logging

Historical data logging for Radio Powr Savr Window and Mullion sensors is not supported.
HomeWorks QSX does support seeing real-time light sensor readings that can be used for
programming calibration.

Additional Feature Limitations

1. Live edit for Natural Show is not currently available
2. Lightbar Slim with addressable segments is not currently available. In order to get smaller
lengths of Lightbar Slim to work independently use more X96 interfaces with smaller lengths of
Lightbar Slim per interface.
3. Diagnostics > Identify Loads does not work for Ketra loads. Use Type X Diagnostics instead.

Product Support Limitations

The following features will not be supported by HomeWorks systems using QSX processors and Ketra
with Clear Connect – Type X. Do not design systems with these products!
1. DMX In/Out on N3
2. Dynamic Keypad
3. Siemens Thermostat
4. TouchPRO Thermostat
5. RF HVAC Controller
6. seeTemp Wall Control
7. Radio Powr Savr Temperature Sensor
8. QSM using firmware versions 7.31 and older (use the GUI to update the firmware to the latest)

Removed Features
The following features have been removed from HomeWorks and are not intended to be supported by
QSX.
1. Telnet Integration

Replaced with LEAP integration.

2. XML Export of System Configuration

Replaced with LEAP integration.

3. Database Extraction

Replaced with cloud backup.

4. Window Sensor History

Replaced with real-time sensor readings on the diagnostics.

5. TouchPRO and HVAC Controller Support (starting in 21.5)

Utilize Lutron Wireless Thermostat (L-HWLV2-WIFI) or Palladiom Thermostat controls.

System Integration
The QSX processor uses an updated integration API and no longer supports Telnet. As a result, systems
that integrate with QSX systems will need new drivers compared to the drivers used with QS processors.
We have been working closely with our integration partners to ensure they are able to create the
required drivers.

1. A Clear Connect Gateway can communicate with up to 100 Clear Connect Type X Ketra
devices.
2. The Clear Connect X Gateway covers a total 10,000 sq.ft.
3. Each Clear Connect – Type X device must be within 75 ft (22.86 m) of a centrally located
