Q1. Given the area of the region bounded by the curve 𝑦 √𝑥 1, the y-axis and the lines y=1 and
y=5.

a) Express x as a function of y. 2 marks


b) Sketch the graph using x is a function of y showing the area under the curve for 3 marks
y=1 to y=5.
c) Evaluate the total area under this curve along y-axis. 3 marks
Q2. Given the following curve y=x3 , x = - 2 and x =1.

a) Why we cannot directly integrate from lower limit of x= -2 to upper limit of 4 marks
x=1 ?
b) Evaluate the area under the curve y=x3 from x = - 2 to x =1. 4 marks

Q.3 Given the following Figure with shaded area :

a) Find the equation of Line L. 1 mark


Find the area of the shaded region in the Figure by integrating
b) With respect to x. 5 marks
c) With respect to y. 4 marks
d) What do you conclude from results of b) and c) ? 1 mark
