INTRODUCTION TO INKSCAPE: GET FAMILIAR WITH THE

INTERFACE AND BASIC TOOLS.

LESSON 1: BASIC INKSCAPE TUTORIAL

Navigating the Canvas:

To navigate horizontally: Ctrl + left/right arrow.

To navigate vertically: Ctrl + up/down arrow.

Hide navigation bars: Ctrl + B.

Horizontal navigation with the mouse: Shift + mouse wheel.

Zoom In and Out:

Zoom in: (+) key.

Zoom out: (-) key.

Zoom in/out with the mouse: Ctrl + mouse wheel.

Inkscape Tools:

The vertical toolbar on the left shows drawing and editing tools.

The command bar with general control buttons like "Save" and "Print" is at the top or right side of
the screen, depending on your screen resolution.

The tool controls bar above the canvas area shows controls specific to each tool.

The status bar at the bottom of the window provides helpful tips and messages as you use the
program.

Keyboard shortcuts: Access Help > Key and Mouse Reference to see the complete list.

Key Shortcuts:

Draw a rectangle: R key.

Undo: Ctrl + Z.

Redo: Shift + Ctrl + Z.


Select any object: F1 or S.

Resize an object (smaller): Ctrl + < or Ctrl + >.

Resize an object (larger): Ctrl + Shift + < or Ctrl + Shift + >.

LESSON 2: BASIC DRAWING: PRACTICE WITH SIMPLE SHAPES LIKE RECTANGLES, CIRCLES, AND
LINES

Rectangles:

Select the Rectangle tool (F4).

Draw a rectangle on the canvas.

Circles:

Select the Ellipse tool (F5).

Draw a circle.

Lines:

Select the Line or Bezier tool (B).

Draw a straight line.

Coloring and Styling Shapes:

Select a shape.

Go to Object > Fill and Stroke.

In the Fill tab, choose a color.

In the Stroke Paint tab, choose a border color.

In the Stroke Style tab, adjust the border width and style.

Applying Gradients to Shapes:

Select a shape.

Go to Object > Fill and Stroke.

In the Fill tab, select Linear Gradient or Radial Gradient.

Use the Edit Gradient tool (Ctrl+F1) to adjust the gradient.

Manipulating and Transforming Shapes:


Select the Select tool (F1).

Move, resize, and rotate shapes using the handles on the corners and sides.

Lesson 3 :Activity: Apply Radial Gradients to Shapes

Instructions:

Draw Different Shapes:

Select the Rectangle tool (F4) and draw a rectangle.

Select the Ellipse tool (F5) and draw a circle.

Select the Polygon tool (Shift+F9) and draw a polygon.

Select a Shape:

Click on the shape to select it.

Open Fill and Stroke:

Go to Object > Fill and Stroke.

Apply Radial Gradient:

In the Fill tab, select Radial Gradient.

A default gradient will be applied to the shape.

Customize the Radial Gradient:

Use the Edit Gradients tool (Ctrl+F1) to adjust the gradient.

Click on the shape to see gradient handles.

Drag the gradient handles to change the center, radius, and spread of the gradient.

Add color stops by clicking on the gradient line and selecting a color from the color
palette.

Remove color stops by selecting the stop and pressing the Delete key.
