into a direct current.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The project could have never been possible without the support of
various sources. It is extremely impossible to thank every individual
who has helped me in completing this project. Some people have
helped in the basic formularization and there were sources that
helped me in giving the ideas physical form/shape. I am extremely
grateful to my mentor,

Mr. C.P. Bhatt, for his invaluable guidance in the project right from
the beginning. His vital support helped the project to take a logical
and suitable shape. I take this opportunity to thank the School
authorities, for extending their full support and cooperation in the
project. Last but not the least; I would like to thank everyone who
has offered a helping hand when required.

CERTIFICATE

This is hereby to certify that, the original and genuine investigation

work has been carried out to investigate the subject matter and the

related collection and investigation has been solely, sincerely and

satisfactorily by Ameya Agarwal of class XII ‘B’, Delhi Public School,

Roorkee, regarding his project titled ‘FULL WAVE RECTIFIER’ under

the guidance of Mr. C.P. Bhatt PGT(Physics) during the academic year

2023-24

PGT(Physics)
INTRODUCTION
A full wave rectifier is a device which is used to rectify all the
alternating current components in an alternating supply and
make it purely a direct current.
The two alternating halves which is an advantage over a half
wave rectifier. Most electronic devices cannot withstand very
high voltage or alternating current due to its intense high
power. The use of batteries is not practical as their
replacement and durability is a huge problem as the device
has to be dismantled each time for such a replacement.
So these rectifiers are used in most of the electronic devices
like TV’s, Radios, chargers etc.
MATERIAL REQUIRED
IN CONSTRUCTION

• Connecting wire

• A plug

• Single lead wire – 2m

• Circuit Board

• A Transformer

• P-N Junction Diodes

• A led

• Insulation tape, Blades, Soldering wax, Soldering

Lead, Soldering Iron and Sand paper
CIRCUIT COMPONENTS

1. Transformer:
The circuit begins with a transformer that steps down
the voltage from the AC mains to a lower level.
This lower AC is then supplied to the rectifier circuit.

2. Diodes:
The two diodes are connected to the ends of the secondary
winding. One diode is connected to one end, the other one to
the opposite end. The centre tap is connected to the ground.
WORKING
STEPS OF WORKING OF CENTRE TAPPED
FULL WAVE RECTIFIER

• During first half cycle of the AC cycle, the voltage

across the upper half or the secondary winding is
positive and the voltage across the lower half is
negative.

• The diode connected to the upper half of the

winding becomes forward biased and conducts
allowing the current to flow through the diodes.

• While in the lower half of winding becomes

reverse biased and blocks the current from flowing.

• During second half cycle the voltage across the

upper half of the winding is negative, and voltage
across the lower half is positive.

• The diode connected to the lower half becomes

forward biased and the diode of upper half becomes
reverse biased.
