External Upgrade of VDR F1 / S1 system 1(2)
First it is important to establish which software is present on all units. This is because they way to make
upgrades differs depending on what you already have.
Step 1: Upgrade your Config program on laptop PC
Install the latest version of “VDR F1/S1 Config Tool”.
The B04 version will make an alteration on I/O 700 module for port 3. Normally port 3 is not used. We
have noticed that the internal switches can experience startup problems due to that they are powered
from same port number 4. So in version B03 we activated port number 3 and 4 to be active during
battery power.
Now in version B04 Config tool also includes DAU config.
Step 2: Change cables on I/O module
Due to the reason above you have to move one set of cable from port number 4 to port number 3, in
the end you should have one switch powered from port 3 and the other switch from 4.
Step 3: Check Software and boot loader on units
To upgrade units it is important to know which old version is installed and which boot loader they have.
Always start with the Control module M2.2!
How to determine boot loader:
Start the VDR and look at the window on the control module. If it is ONLY written CCP during startup
you have the “old” version of the boot loader.
If it is written CCP and some extra information, then it is the “new” version of the boot loader.
Step 4: Select SW to upgrade
There are many different versions and it is important that you upgrade in correct order and correct
versions.
NOTE!!! When upgrading application software you should select the zip file from your config program, do
not unzip it, the config program will unzip automatically.
1st upgrade: ControlM2.2
In zip file 5410510Bxx you have 3 files, (Uimage, CMBIOS and CMfirmware).
If the boot loader was of old version you should use the file Uimage when upgrading and if it was the
new version of boot loader then you should use CMBIOS and CMfirmware when upgrading.
To upgrade with old boot loader:
Place the file Uimage on an empty USB memory, you must place it the root catalog.
Turn off the VDR
Put the USB memory on the Control module USB slot.
Start the VDR and wait until a message is shown on the module.
Turn off the VDR and remove the USB memory

To upgrade with new boot loader:
Place the file CMBIOS on an empty USB memory, you must place it the root catalog.
Turn off the VDR
Put the USB memory on the Control module USB slot.
Start the VDR and wait until a message is shown on the module.
Turn off the VDR and remove the USB memory
Place the file CMfirmware on an empty USB memory, you must place it the root catalog.
Turn off the VDR
Put the USB memory on the Control module USB slot.
Start the VDR and wait until a message is shown on the module.
Turn off the VDR and remove the USB memory
2nd upgrade: Display
There are two displays, M4.3 (small) and CM4.3 (large).
All large displays have the same platform (A01) so there is no need to upgrade them, the version A02 is
used if the display have crashed and you want to get it working again
If you have CM4.3 version, then you should update like following:
Start the VDR and start your config program
Update the Display by using the application software 5410615Axx.zip
If you have M4.3 version you should update like following:
Same as on the CM4.3 display all M4.3 displays have the same platform (A01) the version A02 is to
repair a crashed unit.
Start the VDR and start your config program
Update the Display by using the application software 5410675Axx.zip
3rd upgrade: NMEA
If your NMEA application software is A15 you need to replace the unit with a new one from
Sweden.
If your NMEA Application is A01 you only need to upgrade the application software to
5410415Axx.zip.
Use the config program to upgrade the application software on NMEA module.
4th upgrade: VGU
Upgrade the VGU by using the Config program (must be config program B01 or higher)
Use the file 5410252A03.zip to upgrade.
5th upgrade: AMU
Upgrade the AMU by using the config program.
Use the file 5410353A02.zip to upgrade
