February 12, 2024

VP Michael Perpetuo M. Mariano

Head of PNB HRG- Institute for Banking Excellence
Philippine National Bank
7th floor, PNB Financial Center, Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Blvd. Pasay City

Dear Mr. Mariano,

Please be informed that the Memorandum of Agreement between PUP and Philippine National
Bank on the OJT partnership has already been approved.
The Department of Financial Management is implementing a 300-hour Practicum Program this
2nd semester of AY 2023 – 2024 as a requisite for the completion of the degree BSBA Major in
Financial Management. It aims to expose students to the real working environment where they
can have hands-on experiences related to their field for a better understanding and appreciation
of the concepts learned in class. The program also intends to instill the necessary work ethics
and human relation skills.

As we firmly believe that you can provide the most relevant exposure to our students, we
therefore recommend Ms. Vernalyn Reyes, a senior BSBA FM student to undergo Practicum
in your prestigious company/institution:

Your positive and immediate response on our request will be highly appreciated. Should you
have queries and concerns, you may send them at [email protected]. Thank you very
much.

Respectfully yours,

Recommendation and Suggestions to OJT Program

For students, these internships are incredibly beneficial. I've faced several
challenges while working as an intern at Philippine National Bank, but I've also gained
experience and knowledge that will help me in my future profession. My
recommendation to improve the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Programme is to provide
allowances.

Allowances for trainees are a good idea. Allowances enable trainees to engage in the
course without experiencing financial hardship by helping to cover essential living costs
including food, lodging, and transportation. For young professionals or students without
other sources of income, this support might be especially important. It also increases
their incentive to do their task properly.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

Philippine National Bank- SWOT Analysis

Strength
 One of The biggest and most established company
Because Philippine National Bank is one of the biggest and oldest banks, its
customers can rely on it to be trustworthy.

 Nationwide Branch Network

With its 651 domestic branches, the Philippine National Bank is easily accessible
to all people, even those living in remote areas. It also has branches abroad.

 Backed Up by Government
The Philippine National Bank is reliable because the government supports it.

Weaknesses

 A few branches lack renovations

Branches that had not undergone renovations did not influence sales or visitor
traffic, nor did they contribute to the sale of more goods and services.

 Limited Advertising Budget

As you can see, PNB doesn't do a lot of different types of advertising.

Opportunities

 Banking online
Customers' transactions are made easier by online banking.

 Using Social Media Sites for Promotion

Since many people use social media in their daily lives, using these channels for
advertising can reach a large audience.

Weaknesses

 Rivalry with Other Banks

Many banks and non-banks offer the same services, creating a large number of
competitors.

 Data Breach
One risk associated with digital banking is information breaches.

SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENT

The Philippine National Bank was established as a government-owned banking institution.

Through its subsidiaries, it provides services related to commercial banking. Its services include
accepting deposits, making loans, discounting bills, handling foreign exchange, investment
banking, and making cash transfers. The business also offers leasing, stock brokerage, foreign
exchange trading, merchant banking, non-life insurance, and related services. I am obtaining
practical experience in the Philippine National Bank - Manila - Tondo Juan Luna Branch as part
of the Practicum 2 course for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in
Financial Management program at Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa,
Manila.

As part of my internship program, I was tasked to do the following:

 Arranging of documents alphabetically such as Signature Cards, Dormants Accounts,
Client Information Forms
 Assisting Clients in their inquiries
 Stamping Dormants and Closed Accounts
 Photocopy documents
 Shred unused documents
 Email Files
 Scan various documents
 Inventory of Stocks

After finishing this work, I gained a great deal of knowledge about banking and finance.
Through this experience, I was able to gain information, hone my communication abilities, and
become literate in their procedures. All things considered, this program accomplishes its goals
with success and has a wealth of knowledge to share.

OJT EXPERIENCE SUMMARY REPORT

Since fellow students started their banking internships in the first semester, I asked
them about the application process and requirements before starting mine in the second
semester. I start by looking for a branch close to my residence and then I enquire about
the prerequisites. Fortunately, their branch has an internship opening.

Ma'am Bea, the Branch Manager, greeted me and the other employees on my first
day. Since it was my first day, they merely allowed me to watch so I could get a feel for
what they were doing and how I could assist them. I've already learned a lot from their
observation, especially how patient they are in the face of a large clientele. And on my
second day, Ma'am Mary Ann gave me basic instructions. Over the next few days, I
became somewhat comfortable with it and learnt a lot about how banks operate.
Because there are many clients in my chosen field, some of the jobs are challenging.
However, every day will be fun because of the lessons learned. In addition, even if it's
difficult, the staff is approachable and kind, so I may ask questions at any moment.

An internship in a well-known bank is a fulfilling experience. The staff, in particular

the branch manager, is approachable and kind. They treat us equally, as though we
were also employees, and they never allow us to feel less than or like we are just
students who need a grade. Every meal and drink that our clients provide is distributed
evenly.
I learned a lot on this trip, and I'm confident that it will be very beneficial when I begin
my profession. I am appreciative of the memories and the experience this branch
provided for me. I am especially appreciative of the relationships and friendships the
staff has given me. Thank you, PNB MANILA TONDO JUAN LUNA. Perhaps and I hope
that we can collaborate in the future.
