YASKAWA MANUAL NO. TOEP C730600 13D

NOTES FOR SAFE OPERATION
Before installation, operation, maintenance or inspection of this option, a technically
qualified individual who is familiar with this type of equipment and the hazards involved
should read this entire manual thoroughly. In this manual, the NOTES FOR SAFE
OPERATION are classified as “CAUTION”.

CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result
in minor or moderate injury to personnel and damage equipment. Lock
all power sources feeding the drive in the “Off” position.

It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.

NOTE
Steps to be taken to insure proper operation and to avoid malfunctions.

CAUTION
• The option card uses CMOS IC chips. Be careful when handling.
• When removing the option card from the drive for transportation or storage, the card
should be placed in the anti-static package it was received in.
• DO NOT alter wiring or connect or disconnect connectors while equipment power is ON.
Failure to observe these cautions may result in injury or equipment damage!

NOTE Before use,

(1) Before installing the PG-F2 card, read this manual and the manual for the
installation of the drive.

(2) Before connecting the PG-F2 or external terminals, turn OFF the main power to
the drive and verify that the CHARGE indicator lamp of the Drive is OFF.

2-2 Install

Using the following procedure to mount the PG-F2 option card.

1. Turn OFF the Inverter’s main-circuit power supply.

2. Wait at least 5 min. to ensure, that the DC bus is discharged. Remove the terminal and
front cover and make sure that the CHARGE lamp has turned OFF.
3. Install the option card spacer in the hole above the PG card connector socket (4CN).
4. Place the PG-F2 with the lower mounting holes in the option card holder in the lower left
corner of the inverter control card.
5. Align the PG-F2 connector (4CN) with the Option Card connector (4CN) and press the card
firmly into the socket until the option card spacer snaps in.
6. Select the power supply for encoder by switch S1 (refer to the 2-1).
7. Wire the card terminals and mount the Inverter’s front cover.

3-2 Wiring Precautions

NOTE Make sure of the following when wiring:

Separate the encoder signal wires of the PG-F2 card from the
main circuit wires and other power cables.
Use a shielded wire to connect the encoder. Connect the wires
as shown in Figure to prevent noise interference. The wire
distance must be 50m or less.
The encoder cable shield should be grounded separately with the
lowest possible impedance to prevent any induction of noise on
the encoder signals.
Use only the cable that each manufacturer of encoder
recommends for signal lines.
To connect signal lines, use only each manufacturer cable
connector.
Be sure the encoder wiring is clear of the enclosure when
reinstalling the cover.

Notes on selecting cables

NOTE
Cable that is too thick will apply pressure to the option
card and may lead to failure.
Cable that is too thin will produce poor electrical contact
and conductor may break.
The recommended tightening torque is 0.22 to 0.25 N m.

3-4 Connection Diagram

Use the following procedure to wire the shielded twisted-pair cables to the terminal block.

• Using a thin standard screwdriver, loosen the terminal screws.

• Insert the electrical wires from into the terminal.
• Tighten the terminal screws (to a torque of 0.22 to 0.25 N⋅m) and check if the wire is fixed.

For encoder cables, use the shielded twisted-pair cables only.
