Symptom

You received the "Insecure Connection" warning below when connecting to a system in Analysis for Office
2.8:

Environment

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis version 2.8, edition for Microsoft Office

Reproducing the Issue

Try to open a workbook or try to connect to any system when using AO 2.8.

Cause

The Analysis for Office behavior for connections in the recent list changed with AO 2.8 SP0.

Whenever the user tries to establish an HTTPS connection in AO, the front-end tool needs to make sure that
the servers in the recent lists have a valid certificate. The connection is then flagged as Insecure if this is not
the case.

Until AO 2.8 SP0, this was done by icons in the recently used datasources list. On purpose, it was decided to
show a warning dialog instead of showing the icon in the recent list. The reason is that from the static
information in the recent list, it is not possible to determine whether the actual connection is really going to be
secure or not.

This is working as designed.

As an administrator, you can use the setting AllowInsecureConnections to specify:

• if the warning should be displayed but the user can continue (default) -> option 'prompt'
• if the warning should be displayed and the user can't continue -> option 'No'
• if the user is connected without getting a warning -> option 'Yes'

Go to File > Analysis > Customize Analysis > Technical Configuration, look for setting
'AllowInsecureConnections' and set it accordingly.
