16.2 Installation using the System Installation Shell

16.2.1 General Information

The System Installation Shell guides you through all installation steps. The System
Installation Shell can install and configure:
 Domain Controllers with DNS Server
 Aspect and Connectivity servers
 Application servers
 Operator and Engineering Workplace clients
NOTE! It is strongly recommended to install an 800xA system
with the System Installation Shell.

The order of setting up a system is like this:

1. Plan the system with the System Planner Tool
2. Build the physical network connections
3. Install the first Domain Controller
4. Install the first Aspect Server
5. Install the first Connectivity Server
6. Install all other nodes of the system
7. Create a system at the first Aspect Server
8. Add all needed System Extensions to the system
9. Add the first Connectivity Server
10. Add Application Server (if existing)
11. Add Engineering / Operator Clients
12. Add redundant Servers

Planning a System
Planning an 800xA system can be performed at any node you like using the steps:
1. Install System Installation Shell on the Planning Node
2. Plan the System using the System Planner
3. Generate Setup Packages for each Node in the System
With the System Planner you define the system functionality which should be used,
how many nodes are used, the node names as well as IP addresses and redundancy.
The output of the System Planner is a Setup Package for each node in the system
which contains all necessary information to install the node.

16.2.2 Installation Workflow

The installation of each node in the system follows the workflow shown below:

16.2.3 System Planning

To create new setup packages for your nodes, select “Setup a new System”.

Plan the system and decide what distribution media to use, DVD, fileserver or CD’s. If
you are using a fileserver for distribution, select if you want to set up a new fileserver
or use an existing. Decide if Windows shall be installed on the different nodes or not.
If you have selected the node functionality which you need in your system and have
answered the questions which functionality should be combined at which node the
System Planner provides a summary of the node which you have planned in your
system.

NOTE! Refer to section 4 of the user manual 3BSE034679

“System 800xA – Automated Installation” for details.

16.2.4 System Installation

During installation of an 800xA node the installer package folder has to be available
via floppy disk, via USB stick or from a file server. This is needed for the Windows
configuration and for the installation of the 800xA software.

or
Use the removable media with the setup package for the node to install and configure
the software properly. Repeat this for each node in the system, each time using the
relevant setup package.

NOTE! Refer to section 5 of the user manual 3BSE034679

“System 800xA – Automated Installation” for details.

16.3 Central Licensing System

The Central Licensing System (CLS) is a standalone system designed to provide
robust central licensing functionality for use by any application. It uses:
 Centralized Web Service design (SOAP-based protocol)
 Simple client-side COM interfaces
 Built-in handling of all failure cases
(network failure, server failure, client failure, etc.)

The license system is a Client – Server based system. The CLS Server can run on any
node that supports IIS (Internet Information Services).
NOTE! Recommended node for running the CLS Server is the
primary Aspect Server.
This is recommended for security reasons because IIS is needed at the
CLS Server node and IIS is rather vulnerable for viruses.
The CLS Clients has to run on any 800xA node.

16.3.1 License Mechanism

The system uses a hardware ID to map a license to an individual PC. A hardware ID
can be either a physical MAC address from an Ethernet card in a PC, or it can be a
removable dongle.
The dongle approach gives a more flexible method of licensing, in that the licenses
can be moved from PC to PC easily. Moving an Ethernet card is not always possible,
as many PC’s now have built in LAN adapters.
Licenses can be either free-floating or locked. Free floating is where the first node to
request a license is given the license. Locked is where a license is locked to a
particular node or server, or to a particular application.

16.3.2 License Installation Procedure

Licenses can be obtained by initially obtaining the machine ID. If it is a dongle, then
the machine ID is written onto the dongle.
If it is an MAC address, then it is obtained by going to DOS and typing the command
ipconfig /all. This will show a MAC address in the format XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
as shown below.

The rest of the licensing process is shown in the diagram below.

7 / 18

16.3.3 License Entry

The License Entry editor is only available at the License Server node.

When the program starts it is important to see which Machine IDs are available. If a
computer has more than one Ethernet card in it, or an external dongle is being used
there may be more than one entry.

You need a license file (.sla file) which matches to one of the IDs shown in the
“Installed Machine IDs” window.

If a dongle is being used and is not visible in the list of machine ID’s on the computer,
then the sentinel driver that starts the dongle has not been loaded. This is achieved by
selecting “Install SPro Drivers” in the License Entry Editor (see above). The License
Entry Program will then need to be closed down and restarted before the dongle ID
can be seen.
NOTE! Dongles come in either USB or parallel port format.

16.3.4 How to Enter Software Keys

Software keys come from ABB as a file with the extension .SLA.
1. Load a license file by selecting “Load / Replace Licenses…” in the License Entry
editor.

2. Browse for the proper .sla file and press “Open”. If there are already licenses
loaded you will get this message.

NOTE! It is an ASCII file which can be opened with any text

editor, e.g. Notepad. Don’t change anything in the file
because there are checksums in the file which detect any
changes.

8 / 18
System 800xA training

3. Check that the licenses have been added correctly into the different License
Groups.

4. Open one License Group and select a license. Here you can see for each license
feature the quantity, the expiration date and the 800xA system version.

16.3.5 Setup the License Server

Check at each 800xA system node if the license client works.

In the status line (bottom line in the window) you can see which node is running as a
License Server (CLS Machine) and the Connection Status. If there is another message
than “No Error” than your License Client is not working properly.

Possible error cases are:

 You have chosen a wrong node as License Server.
 The License client node is running with another date / time than the CLS machine.
Solution: setup clock synchronization for the Client/Server network.

9 / 18
864459512.doc

You can change the CLS server in the Tools menu.

NOTE! You will not be able to start up the Configuration

Wizard or any 800xA workplace if the licenses will not
be found. So you have to solve your licensing problems at
this point in time during installation.

16.3.6 Running without License

If your 800xA system is up and running and the dongle “disappears” or the Ethernet
interface is defect, you will get a message like this:

In the License Status Viewer you get this information:

This message does not mean that the 800xA system stops working after 48 hours. But
after this time everyone working with the system will get every minute the Message
“You are running the system without valid license”.

16.3.7 License Assignment Editor

Once licenses have been entered into the CLS, they can be locked to nodes using the
License Assignment Editor.

Nodes have to be located by either the “Browse” button or by typing in their name
before a license can be assigned to them.
To assign a license to a node, select the feature in the right hand side, and then select
the node in the left hand side. Type in the number of licenses to be assigned to a node
and then click the “Assign” button.

16.4 Configuration Wizard

The Configuration Wizard is used for creating, administrating and maintaining the
800xA system. It handles both the server and client configuration.

It shows the following start-up page.

12 / 18

16.4.1 System software User settings

The “System software User settings” is used to specify the Service Account and the
Security Groups IndustrialITAdmin and IndustrialITUser.
NOTE! These settings have to be the same for all nodes in an
800xA system.
The Service Account is the user account the 800xA system services are running with.
To the Windows security group IndustrialITUser all users has to be added who should
be able to work with the 800xA system.
To the Windows security group IndustrialITAdmin all users has to be added who
should have administrative privileges for the 800xA system.

“Autostart System on Windows startup” shall be enabled on each node of the system.

14 / 18
System 800xA training

3. Check ”Using RNRP” and choose the number of network areas which are used in
the system.
It is strongly recommended to use RNRP even if you are running a system with a
non redundant network because RNRP monitors the network and creates system
events if a network adapter fails.

4. Type in the Primary Network Address, the Secondary Network Address and the
Subnet Mask.

5. You will get a summary of the settings you have made. Press “Finish” to create
the system..
