Attempt all Questions:

1. Sun light incident on the surface the earth can be represented by an electromagnetic
harmonic planewave modeled by the following function for the magnetic field
component:
𝐁 = −1.2 × 10!" (𝐱, − 𝐲, )cos(−7.02 × 10" (𝐱, + 𝐲, + 𝐳,) ∙ 𝐫 − 3.6476 × 10#$ 𝑡) T
Determine:
(a) Wave length of this wave.
(b) The speed of the wave.
(c) The magnitude and direction of the electric field vector.
(d) If 𝜖! = 8.854 × 10"#$ C $ /Nm$ , what is the average intensity of this wave?
(e) A solar panel consisting of 12 circular solar cells each having 8-cm radius and
efficiency 8%. Estimate the electric power delivered by the panel in case of normal
incidence.
2. The magnetic sphere, shown in figure, is placed in a uniform magnetic field
𝐵! = 0.01 T. For a sphere of radius 𝑅 = 20 cm and magnetic susceptibility
𝜒" = 199, (a) Solve Laplace equation to find the scalar magnetic potential
everywhere; as a function of 𝑟 and 𝜃. (b) Determine the magnetic field
induction 𝐁 inside and outside the sphere. (b) What is the magnetization vector
inside the sphere? (c) Find the surface and volume bound current densities.

3. Two infinitely-long parallel conductors carry currents 𝐼(𝑡) are separated by 22
cm. A square wire loop of side 20 cm is placed in the middle between the two
conductors in the 𝑦𝑧 plane; as shown in figure. (a) Find the mutual inductance
between the loop and the two wires. (b) If 𝐼 (𝑡) = 5 cos(100𝜋𝑡) A, determine
the emf generated around the square loop.
