Text As Connected Discourse

A text can be defined as an actual instance of language use, distinct from a sentence. Discourse refers to collaborative social interaction through language to jointly construct meanings and inferences. Discourse involves the pragmatic process of how language is used between people to create meaningful exchanges, while a text is the product or instance of connected speech or writing that has a clear beginning and end. Discourse is the process of negotiating meaning, whereas a text is the product of that process.
