McAfee Total Protection blocked all the malw
are samples we used to test ANTIVIRUS SOFT
WARE,which included malicious websites, roo
tkits, Trojans, viruses and phishing scheme.
When viruses tried to download to our computers,
McAfee interrupted and tagged them.Even when w
e tried to resume the download, McAfee again stop
ped the download and display its warning message
s.When we persisted, McAfee quickly caught the th
reats as the downloads completed and move them
to the quarantine folder.
We had slowdown issues while McAfee scan
ned our computer for threats.
However, if you don't want to walk away duri
ng virus scans, take a look at Bitdefender An
tivirus Plus that has great protection but also
doesn't creat disruptive slowdown.
This malware protection software has several extra
security features to keep your whole computer pro
tected.
McAfee Total Protection include parental controls t
hat let you restrict kids from visiting shady website
s and set time controls that restrict internet access
during certain times, like school hours and bedtim
e.
One great tool that comes with McAfee is social protection
s.These tools are specifically designed to scan your social
media pages to make sure links and files posted on your pr
ofiles don't lead to a dangerous site or a virus download.

F~Secure Anti~Virus performs a pre~scan to remove
infections from your computer before the main pro
gram installs. And while it doesn't stop you from rea
ching malicious sites or from dangerous files from d
ownloading,it does detect once the threat is on you
r computer and works to quarantines it.
These include a system scan to see if there is any m
alware on your computer and router check to make
sure someone isn't trying to hijack your internet. Ho
wever, you don't have to purchase an F~Secure pro
duct to use these. They are free to anyone who nee
ds them.
This antimalware software scans any device that is co
nnected to your computer via USB, including cellphon
e,and quaranties malware it finds. It also has a person
al firewall to monitor your internet connection where
hackers and ransomware tend to sneak in. This is the
extent of the protection you get with F~Secure Anti~Vi
rus,For advanced security tools, including secure brow
sing,parental controls and a VPN, you will need to pur
chase either F~Secure SAFE or TOTAL - both have thes
e features, Or you can look at another basic antivirus
program, such as Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, that inclu
des some of these and several other security tools wi
thout the added expense of a premium security progr
am.
F~Secure isn't the most user~friendly programto
use.You must change settings from your online po
rtal and not from the program's dashboard.Each a
ction you want to perform prompts a pop-up mes
sage asking if you really want to follow through wi
th it, even if you want to simply click open a file ta
b.It isn't easy to find the quarantine folder bescau
se it isn't listed under the Tools lists,but under the
Settings listed under the Antivirus tab.
PROS / F~Secure offers several free security tools,
like a router check.

CONS / This antivirus program doesn't stop online


threats from infecting your computer.

VERDICT / F~Secure Anti-Virus doesn't protect yo


u from online malware, but rather checks for thre
ats after they've infect your computer. We suggest
the higher priced F-Secure SAFE that includes safe
browsing to stop malware from infecting your co
mputer in the first place.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Softwar

Kaspersky has had its fair share of trouble, buttin
g heads with the U.S. government that has accus
ed Kaspersky of using its software to spy on fede
ral agencies and workers on behalf of the Russia
n government.

Kaspersky Anti~Virus performed well in our m
alware detection tests,blocking 98 percent of
over 300 live malware samples we used.
And Kaspersky does a decent job of warning y
ou of malicious sites if you're using Edge as yo
ur browse, even though there isn't a browser e
xtension of this program.
And when a few virus downloads slipped past Ed
ge's security settings, this Antivirus Software sto
pped them quickly before the download wad co
mplete and the threat could infect our computer
s.
When we first installed kaspersky on our test co
mputers, we ran a deep virus scan.
Kaspersky made sure they were securely remove
d so nothing remained that could re~infect our m
achine.
One perk using Kaspersky Anti~Virus is it comes w
ith three user licenses, so you can protect more c
omputers and laptops with a single subscription.
Kaspersky comes with antiphishing tools that help
keep your identity and personal information secu
re, as well as a virtual keyboard that masks your u
sernames and password as you enter them into lo
gin field to keep hackers, keyloggers and other su
ch threats from snatching your information.
Most other protection tools, like a personal firew
all, parental controls and password managers, ar
e included with Kaspersky's pricier internet secur
ity programs such as Kaspersky Total Security. Alt
hough, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus also includes s
everal of these advanced security tools and cost
about the same as Kaspersky Anti~Virus.
During our performance tests, Kaspersky did caus
e some slowdown to our computers.
Kaspersky Anti~Virus is among the top antivirus p
rograms for computers running any version of Wi
ndows.
