Photoshop Lesson 6 - Layers and Layers Styles

Layers allow nondestructive editing by working on image elements separately. The layers palette is used to create, modify, and manage layers. There are multiple methods for creating new layers, duplicating layers, and copying layer content to new layers. Layer order can be changed by dragging layers or using keyboard shortcuts. Layer styles let effects like drop shadows, glows, and strokes be applied nondestructively to layers.
