RELATION and FUNCTION My Made PPT Lecture

The document discusses relations and functions in mathematics. It provides examples of relations and illustrates how to determine if a relation qualifies as a function using two methods: mapping and the vertical line test. It also discusses using equations to represent functions. Students are provided examples to practice identifying relations and functions and are assessed on their understanding through activities and a quiz in the module.

REMEMBER

When you want to show that

a set of points is a relation,
you list the points in
braces.
REMEMBER

When you list the domain

and range of a relation, you
place each (the domain
and range) in a
separate set of braces.
REMEMBER

And when a number is

listed twice in the relation,
you only note the number
once when you list the
domain or range.

FUNCTIONS

A Function is a relation that

assigns each y-value to only
one x-value.
What does that mean?
It means, in order for the relation
to be considered a function, there
cannot be a repeated values in the
domain.
There are two ways to see if
a relation is a function.

1. Mapping
2. Vertical Line Test
3. Equation
