SECRETS OF HIGH

FLYERS
BACKGROUND (Jer 29:11; Dan 1:17-20 Daniel 5:12

 It is the will of God for us to become all we can

be and He has given everything to become all He
has destined us to become in life. All we need to
do is to discover those secrets and apply them to
our lives so that we can fulfill God’s given
destiny.
 To become someone that you have never been
before, you must do what you have never done
before.
 To achieve something you have never achieved
WHO IS A HIGH FLYER?
 High-flyers are people who have achieved notable success, especially those
who have become successful more quickly than is normal
A high flyer is somebody whose life counts, someone whose life is
exceptional; far above average; outstanding and has become great
in all areas of life.
 High flyers have many greats in life,
 They are great in courage, love, prayer, self control, knowledge,
family life, full of understanding and wisdom, great inner strength,
have executive ability, drive to finish an assignment; great
financially
 (Rich, brilliant, beautiful, but deficient in character, and have no
positive influence, you are not a high achiever) (Career success,
Fame, wealth, not enough;) Their life is not ordinary; Many high
achievers were not born great, but they achieve greatness. (Pst
Adeboye)
What are the secrets of becoming a HIGH FLYER?

 God factor: (Total Trust in God)

 I have held many things in my hands and lost them all, but
whatever I have in God's hands I still possess.
 This is having the knowledge of God and totally surrendering to God.
 Daniel 11:32b: Strength and exploit in academics
 Jer 11:29; His plan’s for you are plans to prosper, to give you a future, an expected
end
 Luke 1:37: For with God nothing shall be impossible
 Prov
3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your hearts, lean not on your own
understanding, In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path

  Psalms 127:1 If the Lord does not build the house, the work of the builders is useless; if
the Lord does not protect the city, it is useless for the sentries to stand guard". (Good
News Bible)
 Psalms 32:8 "I the Lord will instruct and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel
you with my eyes upon you"

Personal Decision and Determination
Personal Decision:
 Know that anything in your life that will have to change will
have to begin with you.
 If you want your situation to be different, then you have to be
different. You cannot do the same thing in the same way and
expect different result.
 Your decision will affect your choices for instance, if you
decide to excel academically, then, you must make the right
choices – how you spend your time, who you move with e.t.c
Determination:
 Determination will make you stand by your decision. When
you are determined, you won’t be like the pessimist who sees
difficulty in every opportunity but an optimist who sees the
opportunity in every difficulty.
Believe in Yourself
(Phil 4:13):

 The worst of all beliefs is Self-limiting beliefs,

if you believe yourself to be limited in some
ways whether or not it is true, it becomes true
for you.
 Self limiting beliefs, sometimes based on a
single experience or a casual remark, can hold
you back for many years.
 Know that your attitude determines your
altitude. (positive and negative attitude) To
move from low level of success to high level, it
starts with changing of attitude positively.
Time Management
Ability to plan and manage your time effectively makes you to excel
academically. He who masters his time masters his life so avoid time
wasters.
No one who indulges in Social Media can become a high achiever (Be very
disciplined)
Facebook Whatsapp To Go Hang out; Youtube etc
TV/MOVIES especially seasonal movies
Understand yourself and discover your best time of study and use the
period maximally
Use idle time wisely e.g free periods, holiday
-Plan your time well and follow it through as planned e.g. have a to do list
-Avoid procrastination – don’t leave till tomorrow what must be done
today, procrastination kills dreams
Avoid spending quality time on anything you know you will never become
Soccer star
Nollywood actor/actress

Practice of Self-Discipline:

 It is the hallmark of high flyers. “It is doing what you know

you should do at the time you should do it even if you do not
feel like e.g. as a student, you want to read and you want to
sleep… A disciplined person outgrow procrastination (I will
read/do it tomorrow)

 Discipline and high achievements go together. Discipline
reduces time wastage.
To be disciplined is to be able to sacrifice the present pleasure
for future success.
 Pay now and play later not play now and pay later. It is also
“going the hard way to escape the hard life”.
 By practicing self discipline, you become a new person, a different person, better
person, stronger and a more clearly defined person. Practice of self discipline
makes you to become all you can be in life
Endure, don’t give up!
 This is the ability to go through all you have to go through to get
to where you are going, yet not losing your passion for
excellence.

 It is a function of positive attitude.

 If you experience failure, it is not to tear you down but to keep

you on edge for successful pursuit of your academics.

 Keep trying, re-strategize your pace. Very soon you will get
there.


Go the extra mile
 High achievers are willing to go the extra mile. When everyone
leaves the class for break and to play, they stay back and do a
little extra learning. Obviously, a little extra effort will also
yield a little extra result.
Do more than is expected in the following areas:
 wake up a little earlier than others or before mornings e.g
waking up at night to study
 work a little harder
 sleep a little later
 Four short words sum up what has lifted most people above the
crowd: "A LITTLE BIT MORE".
Right Association
 Oneof the major things that determine what you
become in life is the company you keep. Your friends
matter a lot.
 Manyhave the zeal for excellence but the company they
keep is heading in the opposite direction of their desire
and goal
 Yourlife does not get better by chance, it gets better by
change. Note: your best friends are those who bring out
the best in you.
Set High Standards for yourself
 To join the league of high achieving students, then it
is paramount that you get to the point of assigning
definite scores to your all the subjects you are writing
examinations on.
 Somebody says: shoot for the moon, even if you
don't get there, you will land among the stars.
 Have a picture of how you want your results to
look like. How many distinctions? In doing this aim
very high and work towards it
 Remember, High expectations yield high results.
Be Positive in your Confession
 Asa man thinketh so he is. Going into the
examination period with a belief that you will
succeed is a powerful examination strategy.
 Successis a state of the mind, if you want success
start thinking of yourself as a success.
 You are not what you eat, you are what you think.
 Writeyour desired score very bold and place it on
strategic positions in your house. Such that each time
you see it, you will get up and do something about
your target.
SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW WITH OTHERS
 "Those who bring sunshine to the life of others
cannot keep it from themselves"

 The best way to be outstanding in a subject is to

prepare to teach others
 If you can teach others what you've learnt, you place
yourself in the shoes of the examiner. Teaching
someone what you know is a way of learning such that
you cannot forget

 Don’t be a loner, join a discussion group (iron sharpens

iron) move with like -minded people
EARLY PREPARATION
Always plan ahead, it was not raining when Noah built the ark".
 The achievement of any great dream or goal is always preceded by a great
plan. He, who fails to plan, plans to fail. Deep and adequate preparation is
inevitable if you want to be a high achiever

 You must develop a time table and discipline yourself to follow it strictly.
Give more time to the more difficult subjects.

 Get all the materials that will aid your understanding of the subject:

 Be focused and don’t deceive yourself. Many students

decide to read in front of the television, some others read
with ear phones. Many others keep their phone very close
so that it beeps when a friend sends a chat message from a
chat line in one social network or the other.
Stay Clear from Examination
malpractices/short cut
 Hall mark of high achievers is good character
 Manystudents involve themselves in
examination malpractice because they want
success without sweat.
 Never take part in examination malpractice
either before, during or after examination
Progressive Prayer Life (Daniel)
 Prayerful Preparation Prevents Poor Performance
 Pray for knowledge/Wisdom/Spirit of excellence/executive ability
 Pray for Divine Ideas/ Understanding
 There is a type of wisdom that sets Daniel apart.
 Pray for guidance
 Pray for good health to be able to study and to be able to assimilate quickly
 Pray for retentive memory and favour
 Pray against distractions/not to lose focus
READING CULTURE,CONTINUOUS
LEARNING AND SELF IMPROVEMENT

 2Tim 2:15
 Reading broadens your mind
 Read beyond the class work, other books
 Read beyond your area of discipline
 Read spiritual books too: Faith; Prayers: Leadership; Success ;
Bible too.
 Read biographies of successful people

others, you must have what others don’t have) Skill will make people to look for you.

Others
 Study the life of the people doing well and their habits
 Don't spend money on things that will not be of benefit
to your academic dream. Invest in text books, past
questions, private lessons, motivational books etc.
 High achievers don't give much attention to relationship
with the opposite sex, thus they have less distraction.
 Don’t allow your work to accumulate, do each day’s
work diligently
 Don’t neglect the place of prayer. Pray as if prayer is
the only thing that will make you to achieve great
results. Read as if God is not going to answer your
prayers
 High Achievers don’t do clutter
 High Flyers have clear minds, clear thoughts and clear desks, ready to go.
They haven’t got ‘Tidy my desktop’ on the top of their ‘to do’ list.

 They don’t drift

 Knowing what you intend to do is the route of the High Flyers. They know that
having a goal is essential, that the focus needed to achieve that goal feels
good and that the discipline of achieving a goal boosts confidence. High
Achievers aren’t afraid to break their goals down into small steps so they can
get them done, and they aren’t afraid to plan well in advance.
 High Achievers don’t sit on the couch
 Unlike the rest of us, High Achievers don’t waste time procrastinating. It’s
easy to get hung up on having to do something perfectly or be overwhelmed
by the task in hand, but just get on with it. We may spend hours surfing the
net, chatting on the phone, waiting for people and in general distracting
ourselves from the task in hand, High Achievers will get on with things – if
there’s a reason that they have to do them – or they’ll delegate. They don’t
hang about waiting for life to happen, they make it happen. Ever heard a High
Achiever say ‘I’ll do it in a minute’ or ‘I’ll do it in five months’ or even ‘I’ll do
it in five years’. Stop putting off your life. Do it now.
 Passion: They say you have to love what you do and having passion for your day
job is great for driving a project. Successful people are the ones who rarely
complain about their job and throw everything they have into it with a smile - no
matter how badly things are going.
 I love what I do. I am always thinking about it, in my head I am always working. It
is solitary but I have a network of people around me that I trust to bounce ideas off
or to look at my work and pass valued opinion. But at the end of the day it is just
opinion and it always rests with me. I like that. I like the control and ownership."
 Plan your day
 Start planning your your day, your time, and the tasks you will accomplish each
day. Create your future based on your daily actions. And don’t wait until the
morning of a day to plan the rest of it. Plan your day at the end of the previous day
or week.
 They ignore noise
 What is noise? Noise is something that our world has created that takes your
attention away from the focus on your prize. It comes at us every day and in
many forms. Most social media can be distracting noise that takes your
attention away from the important things. Your cell phone that you answer
every time it rings is noise. Checking your email account every hour is noise.
What other people say about you in an effort to discourage your success is
noise. To many social activities and “hanging out” is noise. Start ignoring
these and other items that get in the way of your focus. You have a limited
amount of time in each day to make progress on your goals. Don’t let the
noise distract you.
 They make other people better
 If you want to live a fulfilling life, help other people. Solve someone’s
problem. Make somebody else richer, faster, stronger, smarter, or more
emotionally stable.
 Don’t compare your life to others and don’t judge them; you have no idea
what their journey is all about.
 Stop trying to be someone else. We all have our own distinct purposes in life.
Be yourself always and become the best version of you. You are original, not a
counterfeit.
  Don’t answer ads that promise get-rich-quick schemes because it won’t be
you who gets rich quick. Apart from bonanzas, lottery, promos or TV shows,
there is nothing you can do in this world that gets you rich in a jiffy.
  Don’t envy what others have; you don’t know how they got it.
 They say that not all that glitters is gold. The truth is that you don’t know
how he got what he has or the price he had to pay in exchange for it. Think
about this before you envy somebody.
 If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say.
 High achievers don’t talk just because they have to say something; they talk
because they have something to say. Most successful men are very careful
with their tongues–they hardly speak out of turn or when it is unnecessary.
Learn to talk less and listen more.
  If you are going to jump off a bridge, make sure you know how deep the
water is.
 Always determine the price you have to pay for every decision you make
before making that decision. Many great men today are college dropouts, but
they knew what they wanted and the understood the implications, so they
went all-out. So before you quit your job or quit college, and before you jump
off that bridge, ask yourself this very important question: “how deep is the
water?”
Conclusion
 They have good work ethics- doing your DUTY OR WORK
promptly; no procrastination;
 Good focus and concentration on your work all the time
 Early risers (wake up early)
 They see themselves as different from others:
 They think differently;
 They see things differently;
 They talk differently;
 They do their work differently.
 They set great goals
 They make great sacrifices when others are sleeping
 You cannot do things the way others are doing it and
expect to get different results
Conclusion

 High achievers are normal people just like you.

 Do they have advantages you don’t have? Yes, they have a winning mindset.
 But you can have that same advantage if you do the work.
