Computer software can be classified into the
following categories:

1. Operating System - is the basic software responsible for


interacting with the hardware. It helps the user to enter programs or
data, store them in files, and execute programs. Examples of
Operating systems are Windows, UNIX, XENIX, HP –UX and
AIX, Apache, and Disk Operating System.

2. User Program- computer programming languages are

Let’s try it!
1. If you are using Windows 10, follow these steps to open
Microsoft Word on your computer.
⮚ From the taskbar, locate the Windows icon
⮚ Click the startup menu

⮚ Scroll up to find All Apps


⮚ Locate MS Word
⮚ Using your mouse, left-click MS Word Application
⮚ And wait till it opens the MS Word

2. Another way to open is to look for the search box and type
MS Word.
Open, Copy, Move a File
When you create files and folders you may want to copy or move
them to another location. There are many ways to do this.

Copying a file
⮚ Locate the file or document you want to copy.
⮚ Click 1 time on the file. DO NOT open the file or document.
⮚ On the Menu Click the EDIT button.
⮚ Choose Copy. A dialog box will appear. Choose the place you
wish to copy the file/document.
Create Folders
Creating a folder is an easy way to organize your documents.
⮚ On the desktop, right-click to create a folder
⮚ Click New + Folder
⮚ Name your folder
⮚ Press enter

You can send a document to be printed in any networked

The importance of learning keyboarding skill enables the
user to the proper placement of the keys. Each button is
designed to control the different parts such as:

1. Function keys – represented by the most common F1


key. Each function key provides instructions to the
computer for a certain task.

2. Special keys are those we used the most like the delete
key and backspace key.
3. Numeric keys – represented by numbers and
special keys like (), @, &,%, and #.

4. Pointing keys – these are used to move from


different directions

5. Lock keys – used rarely on documents

6. Numeric keypad – used to enter a number


from 0 to 9-
