Grammar Reader EXERCISE 1

Read the following text and locate the sentences.


Show sentence boundaries with red capital letters and blue full stops.

Declares things.

It is a walking fact machine that tells you almost anything you


want to know.

They are called as Assertive or Declarative Sentences.

Examples:
It is raining. Telling or Declarative sentences
I will go to school tomorrow. end with a full stop.

I am very smart .
Asserative or Declarative SentenceS (statement)

Does not make a request or give commands rather it just


conveys information.

Provides information and normally ends with a full-stop.

Sentences can be positive or negative

Positive Negative
1. I will go to school tomorrow. 1. I will not go to school
2. I always speak the truth. tomorrow.
3.Children love to eat chocolates. 2. I do not speak the truth.
3. Children do not like to eat
chocolates.
the COMMANDER

They demand things or order people around.

They can also make requests.

They are called as Imperative sentences.

Put the dishes in the sink. (order)

Imperative Sentences
gives order/commands or makes requests. Such
sentences do not contain the subject as it is
hidden (you)

The Interrogator

Whenever they speak, they ask questions. They always want


to know everything. They are known as asking or Interrogative
Sentences.
