You become at least 1% more patient I think when you remember that literally nothing is obvious. Nothing.
I spent years teaching Sunday school to toddlers and then spent a few years teaching British literature to adults and both of those experiences combined taught me that literally nothing in the universe is easy to understand at first glance. I ended up explaining just as many “obvious” things to the adults as I did the toddlers.
I’ve tried and failed to explain to a two year old that the world isn’t flat and I’ve tried and failed to explain to a 24 year old that Baptist doctrine didn’t exist before the reformation and I’ve tried and failed to explain to both age groups that girls can do boy jobs and boys can do girl jobs and some people go to work on the bus and don’t have a car.
And at a certain point? You start to realize that it takes years for even the simplest concepts to get into someone’s head. We’re born knowing how to breathe, swallow, scream, and suck and everything else is extremely confusing.
